Overhead Bunk Mattress

Has anyone found a decent replacement for the inflatable mattress that's used for the overhead bunk?

It should be an easy fix for you: just order the mattress from a new unit.

Don’t get the one Thor is using. They are really bad. We never have the need to drop the bed down so we probably will not replace it.

Thanks guys, but the Thor CS folks say the new one "won't work" in the older frame for some reason. If anyone has done that, I'd love to hear about it ...

I was told that Rocky Mountain Mattress was a good place to look. I don’t have any experience with this company so you may want to ask around.

I would measure how deep the bed is and order one the same depth or perhaps an inch thicker (it will crush down).

I agree. With the dimensions: you can pretty much order what you want... Happy Shopping!

And good upholstery shop can make you a mattress to fit with a good high density foam, and most likely for far less than ordering one.

Yes, measure. When Thor switched from the air mattress to the foam mattress, they made the tray deeper. Seems like the mattress in our 2016 is about 3 inches thick.

Kids back in the day could sleep on minimal padding, like indoor outdoor carpet or just a sleeping bag on a hard floor!

On our Axis I ditched the air mattress and picked up a custom cut foam mattress from The Foam Factory. Its about 6" deep 1/2 memory foam and 1/2 high density foam. It doesn't fit in the bunk when its fully retracted: we just throw it on the beds when travelling and then put it on the bunk when we park (just another setup task).

Contact Thor customer service to get the part number then contact a Thor dealer who can give you a price and place an order which can be shipped to wherever you wish.

bunk mattress

We have used Mattress Insider to get custom RV king mattresses for our last three coaches. They make them in the size and firm mb EST you want plus the mattress liner. Stain resistant and easy to put on and take off.

Like you we didn't like the air mattress either. We went to a mattress store in town and bought a cheap 4 inch mattress. It's comfortable and works fine for the kids, or an adaptable non-picky adult. We had to make a small adjustment in the locking pins because the loft doesn't go completely to the ceiling. I have a previous post on the locking pin adaptation.
