Couch arm modification

I am continuing with another modification. The arms of the jack-knife coach pull up & out for more room when sleeping. I had the idea of adding height to one arm so we could turn sideways and have an arm to lean against to watch tv comfortably. I have removed the bracket with the stud that inserts into the couch. And, have removed the staples holding the upholstery. I will be ripping 4, 30" long, 2" x 4"s down to 3" wide. Then, gluing and screwing them together to make a 6" higher arm. Then, having it upholstered in a matching/complimentary material. I'll ad some pictures tomorrow when I have the 2x4's done.

Looks good,,,

Maybe you could add a grab bar anchored into floor and the added 2x4?

Thanks JJ. Grab bar for extra support for the new extended arm? I would never have thought of adding support in the form of a "grab bar". Hmmm...

Well I was thinking not so much support for the for the new arm, but for a grab bar on the right as you enter the coach. We have the outside grab on the left as well as the inside, as prolly you do. We have a Chateau 31W a sister to your rig. It would be nice to have a grab bar on the right as you enter as my DW has knee and arm issues. Something on the right would help her. I will have to look into your design and see if I can do that. Right now I would have to go through the floor into the cargo area accessible from inside through the outside wall.
