Fix for Driver/Passenger Curtains!

Has anyone experienced the sun rotting away the facing material that Thor puts on these curtains? We have a 2015 Thor Axis 24.1 and the sun was slowly disintegrating the material and kept a continuous dusting of the driver's seat and dashboard until there was almost nothing left of the facing material. We found an easy, good looking and inexpensive solution. It's called Insul-Bright by The Warm Company. It insulates against both heat and cold. We easily took both curtains down and measured the size piece we needed within the top, bottom, and side hems; used straight pins to hold the piece in place; then used our sewing machine zig-zag stitch to sew all around without going in to the existing hem. Did both curtains within a short afternoon! Check out www.warmcompany.com for specs and listing of retailers. We got ours locally from Joann Fabrics, got a generous 3 yards and on sale for $4.79 a yard.

Thanks for that info! Ours are only 2016 but they are still disintegrating and getting ripped up by Velcro as well in big chunks. Definitely on the short list of new projects.

We have a 2017 Vegas and they disintegrated in less than a year. After a couple of phone calls Thor did send us a replacement set. Thanks for the info on the next set!

Yeah, ours disintegrated after about a year in the Florida sun. Mrs. S sewed blackout lining from JoAnns after she ripped out the remaining original lining. We were under warranty, but we knew the replacement would suffer the same fate.

Some have cut reflective material to fit those side windows. We have a big windshield sun shield from Cpg Wld and use standard car windshield shields for the bedroom and couch windows.

Thanks for the tip and photo. That sounds very doable even though my sewing is usually with a stapler and hot glue.
How does the insul-brite hang? It seems sort of stiff. Do you think it will hold up without additional facing?
Thx again. -Gary

Hi Gary, it lays great. I just went out and hung them up and they're hanging perfectly fine. No need for additional facing at all. The insulbrite is made for a lot of different things and one of them is for window shades so the UV issue is also taken care of. Take a look at the manufacturer's website for more details. Thanks Joy

Our curtains with the blackout lining have been hanging in there for 2 years, and show no signs of deterioration. Mrs S sewed the top and sides, and let the bottom hang. Then if either the fabric or lining stretch, there won't be bunching at the bottom. No facing used.

Ours gave up in 18 months. DW had old curtains redone in a material called Sun-brella. It was done at Myrtle Beach, material us used for outside furniture covering. The new curtains needed no liner, much denser material is less translucent at night and are holding up well.
