New Thermostat

I'm replaceing my thermostat. unfortunately as I was pulling out the extra wire from the wall. some of the wire that had been spliced together came apart. I'm replacing an old Coleman Mach in a 2011 Thor Hurricane 31D. This is the main Thermostat unit located in the kitchen area. I've attached some wiring pics. Any help would be great.

I don't see your wiring pics
This is the digital one that most of us use when upgrading our OEM thermostat.

$57.07

It's a wire for wire install...

Thermostat upgrade

I just followed the instructions on the Wandering Wagoners youtube. I purchase the same Honeywell model 5000. The unfortunate part is as I was removing the wiring from the wall to see what was spliced where some of the splicing fell apart. no way to know what was originally spliced. So I attempted to color match. seemed like everything was in the right place except for the blue cable.not sure where to connect it. Nothings runs now. I've attached some photos.

I thought the Honeywell might be ok based on the video but I guess RV wiring color coding isn't consistent. Here's a pic as currently wired.

Did you wires match up one for one? Unfortunately as I was pulling my wiring out of the wall the all but one of the wire caps came loose. I tried matching them one based on color and that doesn't work out. I get nothing. I've tried updating my original coleman Mach with a digital coleman mach 8330. I've attached pics of my bedroom unit wiring (the wires are all matched color to color) nor does the bedroom unit have a heat setting. Any help would be appreciated. The bedroom unit is working perfectly.

Help!

Here is a link to a Service Manual on another RV site...
You can try to match up the colors with it. Red seems to be +12V and blue is -12V, start with that.
Also do you have a combined heat/cool unit or a separate Atwood furnace? Maybe try to connect the A/C first.

Stay cool

I did this same upgrade in my ACE a couple of years ago. I'll get a pic of my backplate and wires today to see if that will help you.

OK, here's what I've got:

It's hard to see from the pictures so here is a guide to how it's wired"

Thermostat RED ==> Big Red
Thermostat YELLOW ==> Combined RED
Thermostat WHITE ==> Big WHITE/RED wire
Thermostat GREY/GREEN ==> Fan switch

For the combined wire bundle (multi-colored wires in a single sleeve)
Combine BLUE ==> Big WHITE
Combined YELLOW ==> Grey (FAN)
Combined GREEN ==> Green (FAN)

I hope this helps.

Thermostat upgrade problem

I’ve also checked the fuses, and reset the switch on the heater. I’ll try this config tomorrow. Thanks!

Chatted with RV tech today. He says my unit needs controller upgrade to work with the digital thermostat. once i find out what model the appropriate unit is I'll post it. My coach is a 2011 Hurricane 31D.

Freeze Protection

As several others have mentioned, you do it for freeze protection. I never winterize so I can go on a minutes notice. I have heat lites & backup lites in all water spaces and I block around the camper with heavy cardboard. I set the digital thermostat to 35 (can't do that with the analog one) and have never had any problem.

Would be nice if it was readable. Seems to be thumbnail size; 300 x 222.
Even zoomed 300% you can't read the labels.

Hi Team,
I tried to upgrade my coleman mach analog thermostats to colemach digital in my RV by matching wires. My rig is a 2011 Hurricane 31D. regardless of the wiring nothing seemed to work. finally i had to call on an AC Tech to restore it to original setup since i forgot to take a pic of the before setup before attempting the replacement.
The tech told me in order to add the digital panel i would need to change interface on the ac unit. I really would like to have digital in place for the accuracy and comfort. Is there a site I can use to check compatible

Replacing the OEM analog thermostat with the Coleman digital thermostat should be a wire-by-wire swap following the instructions that came with the new thermostat.

Many have also replaced the OEM analog thermostat with Honeywell battery powered digital thermostats (we are one of those) that require a little more engineering, but they control the A/C (and furnace) fine.

I think your A/C tech may not be as informed as you would like him to be.

Kinda what I was thinking. he suggested replacing the AC control box. My rear ac has a cool only thermostat. I'm going to take another run at it.

For my next attempt at upgrading my 2011 analog thermostats what model(s) do you suggest. One has heat\cool with high low fan. the rear is cool only with hi\lo fan.
