"Another source for advice and answers is iRV2.com"

I found this forum to be pretty heavy laden with a bunch of, what seemed to be, old drunks that come out in the middle of the night looking for someone to slam. They've been everywhere, done everything and think their opinions are the only way to do anything. I think the moderators are as much a part of the problem as the subscribers.

Is anyone concerned with the restricted airflow the new added screens causes. I don't have the whistle but I would like to add a screen to protect against rocks and bugs

No: I put a screen on my ACE last year for this very reason (bugs & rocks, not the whistle) and have no "overheating" problems. The air that goes through the radiators at highway speed is many times what is needed and in stop and go traffic the fan pulls all the air that is needed, if could come up from the bottom if the screen was completely clogged.

If the screen is plugged: you probably need to clean your windshield!

High Pitched

I have my 2018 Windsport 29m in the shop right now for the same thing. It will be interesting to see what the out come of this will be. I think I'll be needing that web site for the new grill. I will call Thor tomorrow to get any help they will provide first. Thanks to all for this post!!!!

Our 2017 ACE 29.3 had that problem. I tried to get Thor to send us a new grill, the old style, so that we could replace it. They wouldn't send it, they said we had to take it to a shop. So it got replaced under warranty in a shop. Blissful lack of high pitched scream!

Thor sent me a big roll of perforated metal screen to add behind my stock grill, after adding the screen and tightening up my engine hood my whistle was completely gone. Absolutely no difference in engine temps.

Just an update! CW said they can not reproduce the High pitched noise. I think they forgot to drive down the road. Thor is my last try for a new grill. I'll be using window screen in the near future.
At least I tried! LOL

FYI - I took my ACE in for warranty repairs and included the high pitch grill sound to the list to see what they recommended. The notes when I got the RV back stated "Customer already completed recommended fix of installing screen over grill."

Question on replacement grill. Remove old one or just

Just received my new grill from Thor. Do I remove old one and replace with new or much easier install new one behind grill. The new one is so thin. But was wondering the two would cut off too much air. Thanks

Zip tie the new one behind the old one. No issues.

I have the same thing going on. The first trip to the dealer they sprayed foam on the firewall with no change. What were the steps the you took the get Thor to send a new grill. When I called Thor they said the whistle sound was new to them. Thanks for your info.

If what was sent to you is a black honeycomb screen I would put it in front, makes a great stone and bug catcher!

I removed the stock grill, cut the screen to fit, and placed it in front of the original grill. I used a few black zip ties to hold the screen in place, don’t need to tighten them very much or they will distort, or possibly break, the stock grill.

I would call back and see if I get someone else. When I contacted them they immediately knew and said they would send the grill out. That associate may not know but the company does.

In addition to changing the grill, which is simply a wire mesh screen they provided, I still had noise. I went around and caulked the side windows in the cab. All of them. Huge difference and much quieter. I also put down sound dampening material in the front cab floor. This also made a big difference. Before these changes we made a 12 hour trip each way and my ears were ringing for over a week. Lesson learned for me, test drive everything

I also had the high pitched noise on my ACE. I contacted Thor and they sent me the replacement grill no charge and i installed. My daughter and i drove to the beach for a weekend fishing trip and we still had the high pitched noise at about 65 mph. So, we stopped and purchased some masking tape and taped up the driver side window edge toward the front, the front windshield along the rubber down the driver side vertical and across the lower side rubber to the center of the wndshield. We drove down the interstate at 75 mph and no noise. We pulled off and removed tape jntil we found out the vertical rubber on the driver side of the windshield was where the noise was coming from. I will visit my windshield guy this week and let him do the correct repair, pretty sure camping world of concord nc does not have a guy who is remotely knowledgeable on windshields.

I have the same squeal when the front end is wet on our 29.3 I will be looking at the grill next week.

Hey Mr Freeze!! I live in Rockwell and we bought our first coach in July 2017 from Ian at Concord CW. Was never impressed with the service dept. there. It was an Axis 25.2. We traded for a 2018 Windsport 29m this past May from Statesville and love it!!! Full side slide out, king bed and more. Rookie mistake, always go bigger, right. Statesville has a much better service. Dept and I noticed whistling in the rain too. Tom Over tonight, one of the service. mgrs at Thor sent me some screen rolled up when I told him my plight. I cut it to size and pushed it over the bolts, attached it with the nuts and put pull ties wherever it was not flush, pretty much every 6 to 8 inches. Made a big difference but not done the rain test cause not been driving in the rain since the summer. Tom is great and maybe we'll bump into each other...

I contacted Thor about the new grill material. Here is a copy of their reply

"The replacement grill you may purchase thru Total Value RV the sellout parts because Thor can’t sell retail there number is 866-282-4460 part number you need is 0313312."

Apparently they are no longer supplying this NC. I called Total RV and the price is about $100 plus freight. My grill is like extra heavy duty chicken wire so I think $100 is a bit out of line. Especially for a problem Thor and/or their grill supplier gave to me.

I decided to try covering my grill with screen as described by Ferf. Went out on Route 80 and drove about 10 miles at 70-75 miles per hour. The high pitched noise is no more. I will be taking a 2000 mile trip in January and am looking forward to the sounds of silence. Interested in how long the screen will hold up. I am taking an extra roll of screen just in case.

This forum and it's members have saved me countless hours of diagnosing problems and educated me on fixes.

Thank you all!
