Under dash 12V plug for GPS and in-dash power switch

My wife bought the Garmin RV 760LMT GPS for our coach. Its a great unit that lets you put in your RV's dimensions and weight and it will only navigate you on routes that are suitable for your coach.

Amazon.com: Garmin RV 760LMT Portable GPS Navigator: GPS & Navigation

Anyway, I wanted to hide the power cord, so I ran a simple 12 Volt socket under the driver's side dash. I found that I am lazy and didn't like reaching under the dash to plug and unplug the unit. So I hit my local auto parts store and picked up a switch and put an in-dash switch to provide power to the GPS when I want to use it.

I removed one of the two filler plugs in my dash for options I don't have and drilled a hole in it. Then I installed the switch and wired it. I like the clean look and the texture on the switch matches the finish on the filler plug. Another nice feature is the red light that comes on when power is available to the plug in case I want to use it for some other purpose.

A simple mod that makes a difference for me!

Looks nice.

The 760LMT is a nice unit (I have had one for 1 1/2yrs) although it can become confused from time to time. But I do like the large screen.

Unfortunately, the large screen size means there are really no good options when mounting it, especially in a Class C.

In an uncharacteristic move, I bought a RAM mounting arm and full-frame enclosure (which includes a sun shade) and ball-mounted it to the forward console. I typically like the more built-in custom look, but there is just not sufficient dash space to do so.

Oh, and a tip. If you want a matching switch, the ones next to the one you installed are Contura III by Carling Technologies. They have several handles to chose from, one that will match your switches.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with your switch, and it looks nice... just saying if you want a matching switch (for that or other positions), the matching switches are made by Carling.

nicely done.
I wish I had time to add a couple circuits like you've done. I really dislike the dangling wires.

I'm surprised more automakers don't put outlets up on the dash with dedicated spots for aftermarket stuff, such as phones, GPS, etc...

Very neat! I rely on my wife to verify with maps a lot as our Garmin is off many times - so I need it in the middle of the dash. yours looks super sweet though!\\

Can you go into detail on how you wired it. I have wired lights on my wrangler multiple times, but was a little confused in how you tied the switch into it.

Wow! It looks soooo nice! Can you give more exact details as to how you wired it etc.? Some of us are not as handy as you. I have the exact same GPS and the way you did it is awesome. Thanks in advance.
