Generator Muffler

I haven't looked but I'm pretty sure our generator doesn't have a muffler--its just a straight (ok well bent) pipe out the side of the unit.

Has anyone considered putting a muffler on?

I see that Onan offers a "resonator" that is supposed to quiet the genny by 1dB:
Onan RV Accessories (pdf)

Here is an irv2 thread discussing the idea:
Onan Generator too loud outside

And a thread in an Airstream forum talking about it:
Making the Onan generator quieter

What generator do you have? We just had one installed this past Wednesday. You Onan RV Accessory PDF said this about ours!...

"RV QG 5500, RV QG 5500 EVAP, RV QG 5500 LP, RV QG 6500 LP, RV QG 7000, RV QG 7000 EVAP and Marquis Gold RV generator sets have a built–in USDA Forest Service approved spark arrester muffler. It is necessary to equip the generator set with a tailpipe at installation." ... It looks like most of them mufflers are built in!

Our unit has the RV QG 4000:
RV QG 4000 | Cummins Power

Look at that, right on that page it says:

Full housing with enclosed muffler
Still its quite loud and Onan does sell a resonator for the exhaust so even they realize that some people may consider it noisy.

Yeah, I don't find mine overly loud, but I would like it to be less loud for sure.
Haven't seen or heard of that resonator.
1dbA isn't that much.... and it says in some cases so I'm thinking that's a suspect fuzzy number.
