Why did they put my inverter there?
Where did Thor put your interter?
Our's is mounted on the top of the third basement bay on the street side of our Hurricane 34J. This puts is right in the way of the semi-passthrough storage under the floor between the bay and steps on the other side. Basically blocking a fairly large portion of flat storage that we could be using for tables, chairs, etc.
I'm looking to relocate our inverter when I upgrade our batteries and converter/charger this spring. Curious where other's have their inverters mounted. I've seen some under the master bed with the rest of the electrical equipment (elec. panel, ATS, charger, etc.). My only concern about that area would be heat in an enclosed space but it couldn't be any worse that an enclosed basement bay in the summer.

Mine is located in a street side compartment near the front of the coach and mounted on the left side wall of the compartment. The compartment to the left of that compartment house the house batteries. Fortunately the inverter is mounted in a good spot and not obstructing the pass thru use of the compartment.

They are normally installed in locations based on the manufacturers specs in regards to cable size and maximum allowable distance from house batteries.

Ours is mounted beneath the master bed in our ACE 30.3. Works fine but it's annoying to hear the fan kick on and off all the time. Even with the unit off, the fan still cycles. I have plans to replace it eventually, though.

Inverter placement
The only thing I would add about where to mount an inverter is all the ones I have researched spec the distance from the batteries to be 10' or less. Ideally the closer to the battery bank the less voltage drop to the inverter from the batteries.
I have a Hurricane 27B and mine is under the bed. I'm debating about a new location since I am in the process of removing the small 1000 watt modified sine wave one and installing a 3000 watt pure since wave one, adding solar, with 6 golf cart batteries.
I'm seriously thinking about an outside locker although you would need to add ventilation with small muffin fan with baffles to make sure water didn't get splashed up inside, but at least then you wouldn't have to worry about hearing the fans running.

Mine is under the res fridge behind a drawer. It was not fun to replace when I blew it out last month. Although it was nice to do it inside when it was cold outside.

Ours is an add-on, in the curb side front compartment, high on the forward wall. Does not impact storage at all, mounted there.

We have a 2019 Hurricane 34j ours is located in the passenger side aft most compartment, next to the outside kitchen above the pass through. Great location.

And when you contacted Thor, what did they tell you about the location or you changing its location? You did contact them correct?

These questions still manage to come up...
Mine is crb-side, and only about six feet from the batteries.
(Mounted right at the top of the bay...)
