removing sofa ...likes and don't likes
So here I am again..hate the fold out sofa bed... it's not comfortable , you loose all the under sofa storage...it sticks out from the wall too far and in to the walk way...went through this on my 24.1, 27b, pace arrow DP, and now on my 29m...what gives here...I've owned dozens and dozens of motorhomes, and till just recent, I never changed out the furniture, unless it was older and just wanted a fresh look...
don't likes.....
I owned a street rod shop, built ground up cars...restored and customized...
if I change out part of the seating... it all has to exact match... or no go for me... when I did my alpine, I ordered all new from flex steel ,captain seats, sofa, and love seat.. all ultra matching leather.. next... most all sofas seem to end up on the slide out...+-4'' rise.. the industry standard is about 18'' seat height. .for chair height... 24'' counter height and 30'' pub, bar height...putting a residential sofa on a slide puts the seat height at about 22''+- way way too high,... If thor did that , you would never here the end of it!!… when I did it on my FR3... it was like sitting in a barber chair...hated it...on my 24.1 I took the bottom apart, removed the sliders and was able to lower it about 2''... but still not right...
if you order from some one like flex steel, you can get it made to fit the slide out height.... but, you can't match the material....you can go with a floral pattern… the "grandmas house look"..or, even though it doesn't match... say it's close enough and live with it....my self.... it has to match, I don't want to take a brand new coach and put a sofa that doesn't match...

On my 2018 pace arrow,it had the fold out bed sofa...we really needed the under sofa bed storage, it had the out side tv , so inside it pushed out the sofa 8'' into the walk way, we didn't need or want the extra bed, again... the fabric has to match for me or no go...so what I did was,.. took the sofa apart, made a new sofa bed frame with under storage...I was able to use all the cushions ,I used the fabric from the pace arrow sofa to cover the new one...end results was it matched what was in there...picked up about 8'' of walk way when slide was in, and had the full under seat storage..and my wife was still able to lay on the sofa..

thanks buddy, I keep looking and looking and looking at the sofa...hate it..
for some reason it just doesen't set right.. the back rests push you forward too much and the seat part is at a forward slant...problem for me right now is we really like this coach, i'll get it all fixed to my liking and ford is gonna come out with a new chassis with more power,... I need more power...

What about some spacers under the front mounting brackets? Would that change the angles enough to make it work better for you?

Be careful about admitting to sometimes not hearing what the Boss is saying...

For us, we would never use the fold out bed, I have 2 fold out beds in my trailer if someone need a place to sleep over night..to fold the bed out, pop out must be out,... and it goes all the way tight to the dinette blocking the walk way,... I never tried this but,... I don't think the ladder to the front bunk will go in with that bed folded out,, and if it did you would have to walk across the bed to get to the bath room at night...So... decision was made to get rid of it...
the sofa was horrible to sit in,...never to be used to sleep in... so out it went...
what I wanted to end up with was more storage..we use the under dinette storage which is gone from the 29m, and no storage under the sofa...
so the most important for us was the storage..
next, fabric has to match, stuff like that drives me nuts...even if we throw a blanket cover over it.... I know it's wrong... and where it's hiding..
so what I did was took it out.... took all the parts and layed them out...best I could come up with was to use the seat bottom, the cushions, and build a new seat sofa back that let the sofa bottom open to allow that big area to become storage...no place in this coach for brooms, vacumes, drinking water bottles and such

on the back rest I went with a 5'' in 12'' angle to make it more comfortable watching tv,... but,.. one off the wants was foot rests....which we don't have.. but, the betterment for us was the storage, and that it matches the rest of the furniture...I need to measure for some gas struts to hold the seat bottom up while getting stuff in and out...
heres the finished so far pic...

the main problem for us is lack of storage for large items like booms and such, next is that the stock sofa is a bunch of parts built on to the side walls...pretty big project, took all day to do,.. but got er done.. and now it's full storage under neigh...if anyone takes one of these out you'll see...

We had our couch removed and this nice sofa bench made for the space. It works great and has a ton of storage. Had it done in Hemet, CA.
