Allergies

When I was younger, I had no idea what an allergy was or what caused it. Now that I am older (62), I have a constant runny nose. We live in Alabama and work in Georgia. Within the next couple years we hope to be full-timers.

Has anyone found a state or location where allergies are NOT a problem?

PS: Been to doctors and they are no help. I have tried all the normal drugs. Any home remedies would be appreciated.

Back in the 70's, had horrible allergies growing up in the midwest. A few months after I got married, my lovely bride and I took our 3/4 race converted Dodge Dart up the (then unpaved) Alaska Highway, which was quite the adventure. Never had sinus problems up there the eight years we were there. Back in the Lower 48, they've come back.

I mention moving back to Alaska again, from time to time. Mostly just to see the dear-in-the-headlights look she gets!

Alaska

I hate cold weather!

I might have to learn to love it.

Strong antihistamines are what I use these days. The over the counter ones don't work nearly as well for me as the older ones that are no longer sold, or even made in some cases. On my way to an allergist as soon as I can get an appointment. Meanwhile, a personal mist machine helps, but isn't a cure. Read good things about netti pots, but haven't actually tried one yet.

I've been told that the higher altitudes, like Denver, pose less of an allergy risk. The tests an allergist can do today might be a real eye opener for you.

Move. Yes, that's the solution to most of it. Move west to a drier climate. My doc told me that 80-90 percent of folks living along the gulf coast or in the deep south have sinus problems. Humidity is not your friend. Move. OC drugs work a little but have side effects. The only other solution is stay inside with the A/C cranked. Of course since this is a MH traveling kinda site, another solution could be to head north during the hot humid months. Or west - Wyoming, Montana. Last but not least, the truth we all must face: Aging ain't for the faint of heart.
North in summer.
South in winter.
If you go to Denver you can smoke a lot of dope legally. Might not cure your allergies but you won't care.

My DW has pretty bad allergies year round. She's tried just about everything. Netti pot & mist machine seen to help, but she's been using a little machine made by Navage. Used a saline solution to pump in one nostral and sucks it out the other. Similar principal to netti pot. She uses it just about every day. Sounds awful but she thinks it works better than the personal mist or netti pot.

Living in KS, we deal with mold count all spring & summer. The dryer climates and Colorado seem to alleviate allergies somewhat. We are, both, seniors and I have never had allergies until the last couple summers. Benadryl is about the only thing that helps and I do not medicate unless it is absolutely necessary !

Try a nice spiced rum!
It won't make you feel any better, but you just won't mind it as much!
