Any Segway Owners Out There

Amazon has a Deal of the Day on the new Segway MiniLite for $250 that is awfully tempting. I'm wondering if anyone is/has traveled with any model of the Segway and if so how you found it for getting around campground and tourist attractions? The small size of this MiniLite model seems like it would be great for an RV like the Vegas.

You can carry more people and groceries in a Golf-Kart...

It's probably just me : those things look like a toy that some kid would use to annoy folks at Disney World...

Segway

I have a Segway minipro and love it. I take it with me camping and I use it every night to walk my dog. Since he likes to run I now can keep up with him during our walks. It gets great reviews and is very well built. I was actually thinking about buying this light version the price looks great but it says it geared for younger riders up to 165lbs. I would opt for the minipro if i was you.

Question: How well do those small wheels handle a "less than clean" surface?
(Small pebbles, sticks, potholes...)

Handles them fine they have pneumatic tires but I would avoid potholes. The wheels are actually large for this reason.

Thanks.
I was curious about this because (MANY years ago...), I was a skateboarder.
I remember how poorly they performed on a less than perfectly clean street.

LOL These are no way comparable to a skateboard.

We have two of the regular Segways and love them but they are too heavy and bulky to put in the RV so I use a bumper rack. They were much more than $250. Those new mini's look really cool for the price.

Concerning you Segways, we considered getting a pair. Do you find issues in your travels riding them on sidewalks, other areas? Do you take them away from the campground?

This is one of my big questions as well. When the first (big) Segway came out I remember hearing that many cities and towns passed regulations prohibiting their use. I'm wondering if this would apply to the MiniPro and the MiniLite's as well.

My interest is in using one as a way to get around tourist areas and campgrounds. Because I have a Vegas 25.2 I'm very hesitant to put a bike rack on the MH as I think I'd have to dismount the bike(s) every time I wanted to put out the bedroom slide. But the MiniLite or MiniPro Segway looks like a real possibility for getting around within a 5 mile or so range of where the MH is parked.

Would it be impractical to tow a small trailer?
You could load bicycles, and a whole lot more onto it!

That might work for many people. But I live in an apartment complex and don't have space for a trailer. As it is, the Vegas is stored at a campground and I'm lucky to have the space I've got.

I get it...
Any chance that the trailer could be at least partially slid under your rig, and stored there with it?

We like to take them to the local mountains or beaches and ride them on the bike / hiking paths. California has a law written for Segways and they are allowed on side walks, etc. Although, they do not mention the name. We used the at Lake Havasu two years ago and no one said anything. We have never had an issue, but then, we try to respect others and steer clear of their path.

At 28 lb, a simple solution would be to get a hitch tray and carry them on a hitch tray & can be easly unplugged from the hitch and set under the unit or be left on they're not very big and available at any big box hardware store. Attachment 8158

Or you can custom build a cargo tray like mine. All welded aluminium. Will allow me to take 5 electric bikes perfectly secure a cooler, grill and not block tail lights or ladder.Click image for larger version
