Boats on an RV -- Porta Bote?

Has anybody done something like this? I really like boating and this seems like a good way to do both.

I've looked into ever portable boating option out there. I will tow my own regionally and rent one for those distance places where I need my aqua fix. More drama in hauling a portable around than they are anywhere near comfortable. You still need to carry a motor also. Lots of valuable space taken for such short usage. Like carrying an 8' fake Christmas Tree around all year in your camper for just a few days use a year.

Interesting. Thanks.

If your rear "mega storage" isn't that full you might be able to fit one of these in there (deflated of course):

Then, like Gritz said, you'd still need a place for the motor if you wanted one.

We had one of these when I was growing up they are tons of fun

We are the best buyer when we are also the seller...to ourselves. I've learned I'm nuts and to let thoughts like this go. Sit on it for a few days...you will come to your senses. Rent a boat...spend the money on beer. You're laughing as you read this because you know I'm right!!!

You're 100% correct...

Renting one for a day is a whole lot less aggravation than owning a "compromise" for years...

Having "spare change" is wonderful but it will sure take your mind down a dirt road and off a cliff if you let it. The worse scenario is an older guy with an idle mind and a little money to burn.

Better to be in the same Porta-Boat; than the same Porta-Potty!

I've got a 2.3 hp Honda that ways 29 pounds that I was thinking of putting on it. I could store the motor in the rear "mega storage" because of the gas fumes.

I already own a Walker Bay 8 foot and use it as a dingy to my 20 foot Grady-White runabout, but I can't figure out a way to safely strap the boat to the outside of the RV.

My hesitancy is strapping the Porta Bote on to the side of the RV due to wind as I'm going down the road.

Porta-Boats are cool. I almost bought one at an RV show in ATL with the previous TT. Biggest issue was, as you explore now...where to put it. With the TT, I was gonna put a ladder rack on the truck as I had the bed for lots of other things. With the MH...the ladder is the only place I would have but I don't trust it to be strong enough. An inflatable dinghy is a better option but then you have the compressor issues and they are heavy. If you tow a car you could install a roof rack on it. If not, you could pull a small landscape trailer that would give you room for the motor also, plus a whole lot more stuff. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Had a sail boat several years ago and carried a porta boat as a tender. Loved it. Had a 5 h.p. outboard on it.

Where in your motorhome did you store all this?
