Do RVers Wave?

After 40 years of riding motorcycles: I got used to waving to other riders.
As a Jeep enthusiast: I found that true Jeepers will also wave.
I noticed last Season, that a lot of folks in RVs will also wave.
But some do not...

Here are some possible explanations for why RVers might not answer a wave:

Why Don't more RVers Wave?

10. They're not sure if they should wave to all RVs, or just folks that
are in the same type as they are.
9. They were on the phone with the loan manager at the
bank; trying to work out how to pay for the new roof they
ordered.
8. The Sunlight reflecting off your windshield blinded them.
7. They were in the kitchen making coffee.
6. They haven't performed the "CHF" yet, and are afraid to
let go of the steering wheel.
5. They're in a diesel-pusher; and you're not.
4. They were watching their Toad start hopping around
behind them.
3. After fifteen hours of driving: they were napping.
2. They couldn't find the "Auto-Wave" button.
1. They were trying to figure out the best way to cross
Nebraska.

A few decades ago, every RVer (motor homes, pop-ups, travel trailers, etc.) waved at a passing camper. It was a brotherhood (sisterhood). Now there are so many on the road that I suspect traveling in an RV does not seem so special.

Since there's almost 10 million of us now: perhaps our arms are just getting too tired to wave anymore?

Yeah I noticed that not many RV'er wave to me. I almost always wave to any RV (esp. MH's) the I see in time.

I was very suprized by this.

Or is it that some are waving but you can see them wave? I try to wave in the middle of the front windshield were the most light would be at so they can see it well (if they are looking for it).

When we picked up the Axis (back in 2014 when Thor had just started selling them) my ride home from the dealer was filled with people slowing down to look and wave, merging over to get a closer look. I don't think I've ever had more people jockeying to take a peek (and wave or thumbs up) than I did that day (this was in February in Michigan ! LOL).

Haven't had anything similar happen while camping with the Axis since.

Geez, I grew up in a small, really small town. I still wave at pretty much everybody. My arm is tired.

Yeah I get a lot of folks now that when im in a parking lot or CG they will stop and ask me about my Axis. Most love the looks of it... very unique. Most think its something brand new on the market.

...I think if you've not seen a similar RV to yours in many hours, or even days, you're probably more than likely to feel like waving... if you've seen 100 or more in the last hour of driving, I doubt you will continue...

there's no 'responsibility' for RVrs, of any type of rv, to do anything other than drive. I own a Ford Focus and don't wave at any of them I see in the road, they'd probably think that would be weird.


Wave if you want. Don't expect everyone's reaction to be the same as yours. Try not waving several times. You'll probably find that it makes little difference in the whole scheme of life. Someone not waving means little, unless an accident happens because they were more concerned with waving versus attending to the road. : )

I remember those days, too, Carol. Rv'ers have always been very friendly, kind and considerate, especially when we first started camping. They are still, for the most part, that way. Seems that the older crew are a bit more outgoing whereas the younger campers are more to themselves.
We can still leave our bikes unlocked, TVs and other items left outside, and get up the next morning without worry of things disappearing.
Yep, you RV 'ers are still my kinda people!!

I saw a 70’ waterfall in N. Iowa a few years ago.

Yeah but in the Jeep community (and I hear Covette as well) they almost always wave at each other.

I owned my jeep for almost 26 years and its aways been that way.... dont matter how old or new the jeep is...they all wave at me. Kinda nice.

So I was surprized that the RV's dont wave that much.... Perhaps like RV's tend wave to each other more often than others? Like MH to MH or 5th to 5th etc?

Most of the RV'ers I run into (parking lots and CG etc) are super nice and like to talk about thier rigs so this lack of waves is suprizing to me.

Back in 2012 Ford sold 1 million Focuses world wide...that is a lot of waving.

Lol. Yep, but think of all the exercise you will get.

But I think the wavers are more of a niche thing (or lifestyle). Not a mass production ordinary cars.

I don't see it much either and I always try to wave when I am awake. I own a Corvette and when I am in that and you pass another one there is always a wave.

Corvette guys- Have you noticed less waving from C7 owners? I have a C3 and have no problem with up through 6 But I have found that the seven owners have not quite gotten with the program

I have seen that in my neck of the woods. I have a C3 and C5.

I wave sometimes. When I had my bikes and Jeep I would wave every time.
