"don't be too quick to judge them"
To "judge them" is to apply opinions and interpretations...my statement was based on the "facts" from the previous post...not a "judgement" of my own.

Note that you can be subjected to a similar search at the US border when entering from Canada (so far we haven't; knock on wood).

Jamie only described what happened...
He never opined that it was any sort of violation of his rights.

Or go to Mexico, or get on a plane these days to go anywhere (of course not with your RV on the plane! )

Nevermind.
Browser only loaded first 2 pages and I see there my questions were answered/opined on later
Family too afraid of what Bob I think said
Even if legal do you wanna be put in jail for legally carrying but 10 days -2 weeks at best have charges dropped after much $ and hassle?
I wanted to luggage check even but.. What a hassle and if going out to car what if lock fails etc ?
Ya got a failure to secure safely charge?
IDK personal decision

My RV was searched once coming back into the US from Canada... I was crossing as Nexus holder - and they 'randomly' select vehicles to search. Just happened to be a big vehicle that pulled up next. lol...
I was inside the customs building while they went thru the rig - so no idea what they looked at. The agent only commented about the abundance of model airplanes in the rig - I was returning to Michigan from a radio control meet in New York and hopped thru Canada.

Well.... all of my life my camping experiences have been boondocking. We go to the desert, mountains, Forrest and all over. Even in my young tenting days I always had a gun. I raced motorcycles and rode in a lot of sketchy places. Not once, ever have I had hook ups when camping. Not against it just like the freedom of my privacy. I carry 4 guns in my motorhome. My wife does not like an automatic pistol and prefers a revolver. She has a small S&W air weight 38/357 and I have a Glock 27 and a Glock 23. In the motorhome I also have a 12 gauge shotgun. Never used any of them and hope I never have to. I work in a bad place where I see the worst in what people has done to other people and I refuse to be a victim if I can help it. I have 3 grown adult kids who were raised around weapons and all know how to use them. My wife does not like guns not one little bit but she understands the reasons. I am a Range Master and have taught several people how to shoot a weapon.

I HAVE taken a firearm into Canada: for a hunting trip West of the Ungava Bay.
The experience at the Border was tense... but fair.
But I was also in full compliance with all of the regulations at the time. I would NOT have wanted any part of how it went down if I wasn't.

I understand that if traveling through Canada to Alaska, you can bring long guns (Not AR15s and AKs sorry) as long as they are declared and the proper forms filled out at the border. Handguns must be pre approved in advance and must have at least a 5" barrel as I recall, don't just show up at the border and expect to go through with your Kimber Micro 9.
To the former LEO who thinks we should stay home if we are afraid to go RVing without being armed, I don't go to the grocery store without being armed, why wouldn't I carry in some of the most desolate areas, and run down urban centers, of the country for that matter? The retired LEOs I know didn't stop carrying when they retired.
My Florida CW and F license is valid in 38 states and in several other while concealed carry is not an option, open carry or vehicle carry is permitted, like Illinois or Washington. And of course Federal Law allows passage through a state like NY if certain conditions are met.

I've just gotten back into RVing and haven't left Florida yet, I've just carried my usual pocket pistol, a Kimber Micro 9.When I go farther afield, out west as far as Colorado, my permit is still good for most routes and even up to the Washington State border it's good. Then I have to keep it in the motorhome or open carry, seems a little silly, but they took away our reciprocity when we allowed 18-20 military to get permits. Oregon Allows open carry outside some of the cities and of course California is antigun. Other than that pretty much legal coast to coast South of DC.

The gunsmith I occasionally use (75 year old) were discussing his former years of RV travels. I was getting some awesome tips about places to visit when we touched on the reciprocity laws... the navigation of which has been well covered here.
Yes... he always concealed carried in his MH. An interesting tidbit he said he used occasionally... Keep a laser pointer close at hand. Thieves aren't out to hurt or kill you... they just want your money and your "stuff". Any thief who's been "in business" long enough to stay alive will INSTANTLY become scarce when they see a laser dot in their direction... Is it real, or is it Memorex? No thief is going to just unload their weapon randomly/blindly into a MH. They're...just...not...that...stupid if they've been in their profession very long. Just like ANY thief, they want EASY targets... and you just made them think "this could be ugly - better move on". Anyone buying the "shoot first" theory (in this situation) has been watching too many Dirty Harry reruns.
For those not comfortable, there are alternatives. Here's a guy well versed in firearms whose FIRST action was safe and effective. However, he was prepared if things escalated... but his first action was to safely stop that escalation. Now... if the intruder had already breeched the door... (he's a heavy sleeper).
To each their own... your safety is your concern and right. Just use that right wisely.

The riots last year proved that gun owners help maintain law and order
Petty crooks avoid them unless they have strength in numbers

I am also a retired LEO and carry with me. I have friends that carry that have a CCW from their home state or non resident CCW licenses. Those non resident CCW licenses cover about 37 different states and they make sure which state they can carry with their license or it is locked up inside the motor home in full compliance. Most of the time they just avoid those states where they can not carry. There are many beautiful areas here in the USA to visit. There are several Shall Issue States that offer non resident CCW licenses either online or in person. Training is key in carrying.
Paul
