Maiden Voyage, what did we forget ?
Hey guys and gals,
We're going on our shakedown trip to Fort Wilderness tomorrow for quick 2 nights..We are very blessed to be only about 2-1/2 hrs away from Disney, so we go there several times a year for long weekends, (annual pass holders) but first time in our new RV.
We've been busy packing and making our lists of things we need, things we already have, etc.
What did you forget to bring on your first trip in your new RV?
Just trying to see what we missed.. Thanks y'all..
Bob

From one Pirate to another
It might be easier to see what you already have in your list, as some things are obvious, and others not as much. Except for the critical items you can survive anything for 2 or so days. There are must haves (shore power line, sewer house and sewer doughnut, cable line, drinking water hose, bed making stuff, bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff like paper towels and a paper towel holder, microwave safe containers, dishwashing soap, bottle & can opener, coffee maker, butane lighter/matches for oven and campfires) should haves (surge protector for shore power, adjustable water pressure regulator, tire monitoring system, snap pads in lieu of jack pads or else just jack pads), and would love to haves (roof mounted satellite TV, golf cart, fill in your dream wish list here...) All kidding aside Ft Wilderness is a fun shake down trip, we did Ft Wilderness for our shake down. The campground has food and limited RV supplies, so if you forgot something essential--like band aids or sewer doughnut, the store will have it. A Camping World is a few miles away for any serious preparedness issue. What is great about being at Ft Wilderness, in addition to the obvious, is you will know right away whether or not your TV's have a QAM tuner, as that tuner is needed to receive cable channels at the campground. If no cable for you, there are lots of over the air channels and you will know what you want to look for on Prime Day or Black Friday!!
Hope you already got your alignment and CHF done before your trip, and a steering stabilizer (like a SafeTPlus installed).
Have a blast, and wish I could be there too.

Just need directions to the nearest Wally World. Been camping for 30+ years and it seems we always need to go there for something forgot (or maybe it's just my wife forgetting something on purpose?)

Have a great trip! We were planning our first outing in our '17 Challenger 37LX for Tuesday, but a family thing came up and we postponed (a happy family thing, not a sad one).
I've been buying so much stuff from CW and Amazon based on the advice in these forums, I'm probably going to need two days just to load and install it all (GPS, TPMS).
Can't wait to read about your experience when you get home!

Also, don't forget....
Well equipped tool box, heavy duty tire inflator capable of filling your high pressure tires (at some point you will want an air compressor), multi-meter, assorted electric connectors/electric tape, duct tape. I am also a big fan of Command strips and their velcro strips for adding the finishing touches, which I started doing on shakedown.
Even if you don't know what to do, your neighbor at the campground (unless he is renting or on his first trip) will likely know how to help. We've helped folks with electrical, cable, and other issues many times. Somethings just can't wait for a return trip to the dealer.
My motto for repair stuff is if you bring it you will not need it...

In reply to the original question: We forgot the wife's eyedrops because as they are kept in the fridge until needed. SO my advice check on your meds, your medicine chest and bring along some Antiacids...even if you don't require them in your Brick and Mortor home, an RV can bring out the need!

All good ideas here. Start a checklist, because things you packed on the first trip can be forgotten on a later one. Been doing this for decades, and still adjusting the checklist as our lives, and our families evolve.
Always allow extra time and enjoy the journey, as well as the destination!

Checklists help a lot - especially if equipment isn't 'dedicated' to your RV... (What tools do I need from the shop, etc...)
Neighbors are typically more than willing to help at an RV park... if you have questions or found something missing.
I'm at Fort Wilderness right now... will send a PM with contact info if you have any issues - or just want to say hi.
(A group of us from this area get together a couple of times a year - watch the forum come fall for a notice... Mostly Axis/Vegas - but I crash it with my Hurricane - and a Challenger is welcome (as is any Thor for others...)
