"Ham" Radio Operators
Just curious how many ham (amateur) radio operators we have on this forum. If you're a ham, give a shout. I've been a ham for about 48 years--my call is WA6DDB and was GW5AXH for a couple of years. I think I was the only female ham (GW5) in Wales at the time.

Carol,
I've had my license for about 15 years but have been inactive for most of that time. Work has really gotten in the way and my G5RV had to come down due to trees and exterior remodeling. I really want to get back on the air but I will just need to be patient.

N1VE and K1VE here. Been hams for 25 years. No radio in the RV yet. Any suggestions on mounting a 2-meter/440 antenna?

DocMike had a metal plate installed on the roof. You could do that and then run the cable down the refrigerator vent. Or if you have a ladder in the back, use that.
Since I use it mostly when stationary, I use the suction cup and a 5 foot PVC pipe to raise a groundplainless antenna above the coach. The attraction of this method is that I can swap the antenna for a WiFi or cell data antenna as I need.

Soon to be camping and hamming
We bought our Vegas 24.1 last fall and we have not tried it out yet. I bought a FT957 to use while camping. I plan to use two 17m hamsticks as a dipole fastened to the ladder. I have not thought of a way to put a mobile 144/440 antenna on the camper yet. Our first trip will be to Myrtle Beach the end of this month. Hope to be on the air. 73, de KB3RB

Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot about putting ferrous metal on the roof. I did that when we had an aluminum roof on our RV. I am reluctant to put anything on the rubber roof, but I could use 3M 5200 to adhere a large steel washer to the top of the fiberglass front cap on the Windsport.
I have never seen that suction cup method of attaching an antenna to a sidewall.
My next project will be to mount a Crushcraft R-7000 on the tongue of our enclosed cargo trailer for stationary use.

N3EQF here; Tom in central FL. Only 2 meters mobile in the RV so far, but have a IC-706 and a fiberglass flagpole antenna for when "camping".

Great to see the hams checking in; bet there are still more out there. Sorry to be slow in sending my thanks for checking in, but AT&T left me with no home phone service and no Internet for almost a week (I'm still fuming).
I don't have a rig in my RV, but may try to find a compact transceiver or maybe just stick with 2 meters. I'm too old to handle much of this myself. After retiring and returning to Florida (my home state), I have not set up my station at home, but would like to have at least 2 meters on the road.

KE7FHK here. Figuring out all the systems on our new rig before I start poking any holes in it. Several handhelds and FT8900 and FT897D so we'll see what kind of mobile set up develops.

Good luck on the test. Let us know how you do.
Are you doing the technician first the general. Or trying to go as far as you can?

I don't know how far north you are in IN. There tests once a month in Radcliff, KY. Lincoln Trail Amateur Radio Club.

I'm a little late here as I only just joined the forum, but de N1HOB in Oklahoma City. Just bought our Thor Saturday so I have to figure out the radio situation. Ya gotta have your priorities in order, no? ;-)

Welcome to the board. Good luck with your new RV. Keep us posted on the details of your installation. I am still procrastinating. However, I will be boring a hole through the sidewall somewhere near the dinette for a barrel connector so I can run coax into the rig for Field Day and other remote HF use.
