Traveling in a Class A with 5 Cats and a Dog :)
I need some tips on traveling in an RV with 5 kitties and a dog The dog is not so much a problem. He rides on the passenger's side floor board, in his bed, looking out the "doggie window", as we call it.
The cats, are another story. They have not been in the RV yet, but I can anticipate a lot of trying to get up into the driver's area. I'm afraid of a cat getting under my feet while driving.
I can't be the first RV owner who wants to separate the cockpit area, somehow, from the cabin area. Ideas, tips or thoughts on how to do this? A retractable gate somehow perhaps?
I'd love to hear about how you all have handled this. Maybe pictures of your solutions?
Thanks,
Shawn

UPDATE: As part of the RV Sale, Camping World agreed to "come up with a divider solution between the cockpit and the coach." They have designed something using awning mesh and attachments to each wall. My coach is in Camping World Today, tomorrow and Monday for that, and a few other upgrades. I'll take pictures of how it looks once installed so you all can see what they came up with!

That is cool! I imagine a very interesting picture with kitties crawling all over the mesh LOL.

Escapees magazine May/June 2015 on Page 83 ("Viewfinder - Odd RV Mods") has a picture of a "Cat Condo". Someone took a pet crate and mounted it to the outside of their Class A coach with the crate opening against a window. They open the coach window which allows the cat to enjoy indoor or outdoor accommodations as it's mood determines. That is one of those you have to see it to believe it.

I like that you can get in and out of your drivers door when needed and still use the door at the steps when you are on a site. Be careful the cats don't dash outside! Happy tails......er, I mean trails!

Sadly, there is no driver's door on this 2015 Thor Windsport 34F. It's a Class A with only the one side entry door. We are in the process, though, of adding a small wall section on the side of the sink/cupboard area, which we can attach another set of retract-a-gate brackets to, so that, as needed, the retractable gates can swing over to the kitchen cupboard area instead of straight across to the other wall.

I would love to hear updates on your travels with your furry friends! We have none, but I bet it will be great fun to have them with you on your trips!

Hey fivekitties,
Are you concerned about the cats during extending or retracting the slides?

You need to keep the 5 cats in crates while traveling, particularly since
they have never been in a moving motorhome.
We travel with a 80 lb. golden and she also stays on the passenger seat
floor and looks out the window.
I am allergic to cats so no cats for us.
Just my $0.02

I probably agree with you at least initially. Once we determine how they will act/react we can review the decision.

We travel with a 50 LB Collie Mix that rides on the passenger floor as well. The first mod to my coach was to install a seat belt extension (second buckle) to the passenger's seat so we can have her connected to her safety harness while my wife is also buckled in.
I want to build some type of platform (about 6 or 8 inches high) for her so she can see out the windows as we are travelling.
My wife has seemed to have adopted a stray cat so who knows where that is going.
