Griddles

Hello to my fellow RVers

My question at hand is "Gas Griddles "

I have a grill for the RV however have come to a crossroads, on weather to buy a Griddle and pitch the Grill.
We see the benefits the griddle offers based on our electric one we currently use and how well it works for so many breakfast items.
The wife simply hates cooking anything greasy in the rv and I agree it gets every place.
So out comes the grill, frying pan, electric cord and outside I go to cook.
During my research i found a lot of choices however few comments from true RV people.
Now let's get to all your professional experiences and what is the best Griddle for an RVer and why.

Look forward to the conversation

Jeff

Love my blackstone 36. It takes up a lot of room, but sets up quickly. If you like to cook for a group, you can't beat it. It also has a grill top, so its the only unit we carry.

I was interested in knowing if anyone has wind guards on their grill/ griddles and if wind is a problem with their units remaining at temperature.
I also have an old Coleman kerosene stove with the win guards they work great.
Don't laugh I know I'm dating my self and there maybe some here that never seen one except in a picture or grandpa garage.
However I heard some others while at the service bay complaining about their grills and this very problem.
I do have a small Weber with this issue as well

That’s a good idea. I haven’t opened the box for my bbq yet but the ability to use both at the same time would be cool

Classictint I purchased a Weber for the RV and thought it would be great and it works however I find myself still pulling out the electric griddle for breakfast.
I wish I had asked some more questions before I jumped off the bridge.
Now seeing all these new gas griddles or combination unit with interchangeable grates and griddle tops I believe I made a mistake.
There are some nice grilled type units out on the market.

Good luck with your choice.

My favorite is my Blackstone griddle but steaks and ribs are best cooked over wood or charcoal

What can I say!!

I remember the days when my sons and I would poke fun at RVers vs campers. They are now 39 and 37 so it has been a while. I now own a Gemini 24 and they make fun of me. I enjoy sitting under the awning having a touch while watching them put up tents. It's even more fun when it is raining or 100 degrees or both. Small rvs like mine have minimal space and I have become a minimalist when packing. I carry a small grill (charcoal) and a one burner hot plate which I plug into the outlet outside the rv. The coffee pot, which also takes up a lot of counter space, is also outside plugged into the outlet. We cook outside whenever possible. I figure the more I have to carry, the less "camping" fun I will actually have. Grill, griddle, hot plate, open fire are all options to consider. Personally, the more like camping one can make it, the better the overall experience. After all, we are not camping but living in a motored house with all the amenities we have back at home. But, just how sweet is that air conditioning!! and hot shower!

Jeff,

I bought a Blackstone 17" with carry bag a couple months ago. I love the griddle and the size perfect. I also carry a Weber baby Q and use them both. I bought the blackstone 17" with carry bag for less than or right around $100. The bag comes with a cover that I use when nit in use an when it is time to come home I use the bag. Rather than hook up to the RV tank and worry about possible leaks, I bought a one gallon refillable with the blackstone hose. If you have room the dual burner 22" might be nice but not worth the extra space for us. I use the Weber for burgers, steaks, chicken, etc. and the Blackstone for things like eggs, bacon, pancakes, shrimp fried rice, vegies, etc. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I would like to say thank you all for all your input on personal experiences and choices.
I have a better idea on what I'm going to do. I agree we are camping and why loose that classic feel for what I experienced when I was a kid.

Once again thank you all
Hope to see you on the road and safe travels

off topic...but every time I go to one of those teppanyaki places (we call it chop chop), I think about how much I'd love to have one of those large griddles in my house in place of the standard 4-burner cook top.

RVing is a whole lot more comfortable!

I agree RV'S are way more comfortable and wouldn't give it up for nothing. I believe if I ever have a lapse of mind, my wife wouldn't hesitate to bring me to my senses.
With that being said that doesn't mean we can't try to keep some of the simple ambiance of camping.

I went the 17" Blackstone route last year and haven't looked back. I use it up on the deck where I have a 30 lb propane bottle left over from my old grill. However, for the road I have a 5 lb tank with a hose that deletes the worry of running the Vegas propane dry. Also gives me the freedom to move over to the picnic table, etc.

Because of it's great heat distribution I use it like I did when I cooked commerically - put a pot in one corner and let it rip. Truth be known about the only thing I cook in the house (real one) any more is my morning egg wrap and a pot of rice every couple days.
