Portable Ice Maker

I have been eyeing the portable icemakers for a year or so. CW has them for $129 with Wally World at $99 or $89 and Lowes normally has them for $99.

I pulled the trigger and bought one this AM. Was in Lowes to get a part to fix the GF's toilet and passed an aisle display that had the Fridgidaire brand for $79. With military discount that ends up being $71.

Getting it acclimated at the moment but will be using it for real this afternoon in the garage. Will evenutally rotate it between RV and garage. I figure it'll pay for itself before the summer is over (maybe even this heat wave - Heat Index is currently 106F and climbing).

As the girls at the Ice House Bar in Singapore would say "Stay Cool My Friend."

I'm on my third one. Eventually they become so inefficient at making ice that you just have to replace them. I got 3 years out of the first, two out of the second and just bought my third from Wally World on sale. Still beats hauling ice.

I find bigger is better. I have had two over the last 15 years. A gallon of water fill make about 8 lbs of ice. If the water is added it will take about 1 hour before any usable ice is available. I think the 48 lb of ice in 24 hours is about the right size for an ice maker. That is 2 lbs per hour which is a basket full. The ice maker runs nicely off the 1000 watt inverter while on the road.

I'm also on my third one, they eventually quit working. I don't guess they're made for running up and down the highway. They are a lot easier than schlepping to the store for ice.
