Before we started towing, I rented a car on a couple of trips...
Enterprise typically had the best prices... And "they'll pick you up" (and drop you off after).

Your car insurance and/or credit card company will often cover your rental - so no need to buy the optional insurance.
(And unfortunately I know it works from a recent 1.5 mile rental.... That's how far I got away from Enterprise before being rear ended... Normal auto insurance covered it all.)

When we first got our DP we rented, usually but not always, from Enterprise. Then we towed for years, and now with the Gemini, we are renting again. Pro's and con's to both sides, I like not having the hassle of not being able to back up, having to find space to disconnect and re-connect, but truthfully renting can sometimes be a hassle, too. Setting up a car and motorhome to tow, correctly and safely is not exactly inexpensive, and I am not in favor of cost saving shortcuts, which are almost always going to compromise safety. Renting can be convenient, as can towing your own wheels, and frankly you can find yourself in a remote area, when rentals are not available, and there you are with no spare wheels. We are rarely that remote, so for us renting is working well for us, at least for now. You just have to decide which works best for your particular travel style.

This last summer we only pulled the Harley and was on the road for about 4 months. There were numerous times we had to have a car. We found that if we planned ahead and booked online (advance pay) we could get the best deals. Probably the best advance pay deals ended up costing us around $14.00 to $17.00 a day.

We use Enterprise and joined the club. We get upgrades and specials when we use them.

Does it matter what area of the country your in? We are going to be staying in Lebanon, Tennessee for a couple months. It's just east of Nashville. I have called and the best I was quoted for a small to mid sized car was, 28 bucks a day with unlimited mileage.

Rates vary quite a bit for the same car in different locals. Guess its all about, whatever the market will bear.
