First Trip, So Far, So Good, Slight Tactical Error

We are on our first trip, just a few hours from the house. Enjoying our Axis, just learning the best place/way to store stuff, inside and out. Reminds me of our first trip in the travel trailer. Everything is working, no problems at all, so far, so good with the Axis. My driving however....

Slight tactical error: About 30 minutes from the house, on a two lane road, with oncoming traffic, I made contact with an unseen dead tree limb, slightly hanging out over road. My wife thought it hit the passenger mirror. My daughter, driving behind us, said all she saw was the tree limb fall to the side of the road. Got to the campground, looked at the mirror and saw no damage! Great, sigh of relief.

This morning, while lounging under the awning, minding my own business, I looked up and saw something dangling from the front of the awning at the roller. Well, the limb hit the front of the awning and broke the front of the plastic cover, that covers the motor, off, and then the the rear cover also. No other damage to the awning or fabric! I called a local mobile RV repair man and he came and looked at it and ordered the parts from Carefree, which should be here Thursday, we leave Saturday.

The repairman and the Carefree rep were shocked that there was no other damage to awning, and that it was functioning properly. All we can say is, thank you, Lord!

Those covers are easy to install and therefore easy to come off. I saw in another thread some folks use a piece of duct tape to help secure it. I lost the front cap, actually a Ford mechanic lost it on a test drive. The freight was more than the covers. May be something you want to keep a spare around. It seems mine cost about $25 for the pair.

Good idea! I will do that when I get my new caps!

Hi Mark!
Glad to hear that the damage was relatively minor, and the trip is going well!

By the way...

Now that you're getting some actual experience with your rig: is it still the perfect one for you?

Or are you already peeking over into the other campsites: to see what everybody else has?
(If you are: it's normal! )

So far for our last two campers (5th wheel, and Axis) I haven't had that problem

The 5th wheel we had for 10 years. On the Axis every time I even think about it I remember all the mods and how long its taken to get the Axis to be "ours". Getting a new unit would be starting over, and would have to deal with all the new unit issues...

We're happy LOL

Ron is thinking like you, Jamie...he thinks he wants to go to a B+, but nothing comes close to the Axis...and then all the time and tinkering he has done...adding all the extras, making it ours...It would take a lot to pry him away from it, I believe !

We are settling in quite well! There has been some adjustments, but each day we are happier with our decision. The wife is very happy. For me, learning how everything works is new, and I am getting more comfortable each day.

And yes, we walk around the campground looking at other rigs, but without buyers remorse.

Awning Repaired

Mobile repair came by with parts and installed them. We picked up a memory foam topper for our bed. Things are going well.
