I'm at a state park with very weak cell, so one would have come in handy. I know Wilson (weboost) is one of the leaders in homes and businesses, so I'm curious what people are using in their coaches.
Also, in a spot like this with very weak signal, a directional antenna would be better than an omnidirectional.

Do these boosters need to have an antenna up on the roof?

From what I have looked at so far, yes they have an outside antenna or an inside one. It all depends on what system you are looking at. They seem to range from $400 to $1000. I am just trying to buy the right system.

Wilson,Weboost is one of three manufactures that I am researching right now.

We Have had a Wilson on our last two units. They work well with an outside antenna. The models are specific to your type of phone. The unit will give us 3 to 4 bars, but we have found you must have at least 1 bar to start with. Dick

I installed the WeBoost on our '15 about 3 months ago--can't say that I've noticed any change, but have been in good cell areas all the while. Yes, there is an outside antenna, mine is attached to the ladder and the coax run across to the back of the kitchen slide, down the gasket area, under the slide and up into the cabinet that houses the fireplace.
The router is mounted on the outside wall behind the TV and the inside antenna sits on the counter top near the edge. I just drop the antenna into the TV opening when traveling, being careful not to get the wire caught up in the TV mechanism. I need to clean the install up some--debating how to get the antenna lead thru the roof and into the slide with out the coax being run down the slide area.

As good as Verizon's coverage is (and it IS good!); come up here, and try to find a signal...

I've decided to order a Surecall Fusision2go RV. I did some research on them and it seems to be slightly better than the Wilson/Weboost on boosting signal in rural, very low signal areas.
More important, it comes with a 40' cable vs Weboost 20' and the way I plan on mounting it, at least initially, I don't think 20' will cut it and it will save me from getting more cable (not sure what they will send, but at my house it was better than standard coax). It also has an antenna integrated onto the booster (included option to locate the antenna elsewhere), which I think for something the size of an RV will work well to simply mount the amplifier in a cabinet and have the antenna right there sticking out of it so to speak.
Rather than drill through a wall/ceiling, at least initially my thinking is to fish a wire from my kitchen cabinet area, behind/under the shower to the area where my hot water heater/bedroom cabinets. From there, there is a hole going into an area under the outdoor sink cabinet and I'll feed the cable through there an then drill a hole to come out under the coach just behind the bumper.
I'm then going to zip tie the cable to the ladder and then fasten the antenna to the ladder on the part that attaches to the coach roof (that's where weboost recommends mounting it).
So, the only "not clean" aspect of my install would be running it on the back side of the ladder and zip tying it to the ladder.
The state park i'm at this weekend is the perfect use for it. Phones are typically 0 bars in the RV. I have the mobley leaned up against the emergency exit window in the bedroom and it has one bar -116 to -114 which is a very weak signal, but something a cell booster with an outside antenna can work with.

I looked up what I installed. It is a Wilson #318433 with a 4701 outside antenna. I mounted the components in the cabinet above the TV, and tapped into the 12v for power. I ran the inside antenna through the wall from the cabinet to the phone connection on the side wall directly below. I removed the phone plug and replaced it with a wall plate with a round hole and placed the antenna directly below it. I ran the antenna cable through the wall of the slide and mounted it with a cable gland from West Marine #17834342.
Hope this helps, Dick

A picture or two of your installation would be really useful.
It sounds like a really great way to hook things up!

We went with the Weboost Drive 4G-X RV. Got a great deal at Best Buy for 25% off the regular price. Mounted the external antenna to our ladder, ran the cord down the frig vent into our closet and mounted the internal antenna right next to our Mobley. So far the unit has done a great job with both our Verizon and AT&T signals. Pretty easy install.

That is what I have read. It will not get you a signal if there is none, but will improve a weak one.

We have both Verizon and ATT cells with good data and a hot spot with ATT. I think in almost 3 years of full timing I have stayed in 2 Verizon dead zones. This is my first slow spot for my ATT hot spot. But I have only had it for 6 months.

We'll just have to re-visit this topic when your rig is out in the sunshine again.

I have been a VERIZON fan for years having used every other brand out there as Company phones.
I had ATT and finally got so sick of poor reception went to VERIZON and combined with my wife phone. We were using VZ for our internet using MiFi's and had good luck also. It was VERY expensive.
So we now have both phones on the Unlimited plan with VZ. We pay $120 for the plan and $20 for each phone after that. Unlimited phone text and data Mexico, Canada and USA. We have added several friends and family to this at the 20 plus taxes. We use our phones as hot spots for all our internet usage with no noticeable slow downs. We have used well over 100 gigs within a month. No issues anywhere we have been along the West Coast so far.
I added an antenna to the VZ MiFi and honestly did not notice any difference.

I installed a Maximum Signal cell booster about a year ago. We spend 3 months in the winter in the RGV and 4-5 months in the summer in Michigan. Both of these RV parks are in fringe areas for both Verizon and AT&T. I've tried them both for data but only AT&T for voice. I can not say that the Maximum Signal has been much of an improvement. I hope to find someone in my RGV park this winter with a WeBoost that I can compare performance with. If I don't, I am thinking of eating the $600 spent and trying a WeBoost as the Maximum Signal just doesn't cut it.

You can pick up a Weboost at 25% off from Best Buy. Deal requires you to purchase 3 phone accessories. We picked up to small battery packs and the Weboost Drive 4g-x RV from a nearby store after ordering them on-line. I believe the price for the unit after discount was $379. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/offer/2...t1481903622696
