What Dish receiver do you have?
If you have the Hopper3, do you have the DPH42 switch installed?
Does the left column on the guide show HD or SD for the locals/all channels below 101?
Are you on the eastern arc or western arc sats--prob eastern?

Wingnut
Where did your installer put the DPH42 switch? Roof or equipment cabinet.

Mike, the DPH 42 switch goes on top of the rig and hooks to the base of the dish. It has 3 wires to the dish and one or two wires coming from the inside to the 42 switch. I know I'm not wingnut, but thought I could help.

We have Dish and normally get local channels in HD. However, if the satellite signal is partially obstructed by trees where the signal is not as strong it will sometimes switch to the SD channel. What does your signal strength show?

Thanks Joe,

Did you do anything to facilitate heat dissipation or just screw it down and Dicor the screws.

The DPH42 will need to be near the antenna base, far as I know. It is simply screwed to the roof and dicored under and over the screws. Do not leave any ports open, instructions say a hex cap MUST be used to close off unused ports.
Attached is a pic of mine....

Just for grins, if you still don't have HD on the locals--if your setup is the H3/DPH42, then try this: Stow the antenna. Then disconnect power to DPH42 switch and shut off the H3.
Raise the antenna and let it find the sats. Once the monitors says sats are ID'd with an asterisk by each sat number, turn on the receiver and plug the DPH42 back in. Go thru the switch setup. See if this gets the HD...works for me.
If you don't have the H3/42 combo, don't have any suggestions.

DISH local channels depend on your location. You do NOT get your home local channels when you drive far enough from your home. For instance, I am currently in Eugene. I can not get the local channels from San Francisco.

With a smartphone, you just launch the myDISH app and you can change to the locals to where you are located.

They will be HD or SD depending on the feed from the locals.

Perhaps I am not understanding his problem--he HAS the local channels for his zip code.
But not getting them in HD. It would be unusual for ALL locals NOT to be in HD, in my experience.
Most of us are aware that the service address has to be changed to get local channels once away from the home spot beam.

I'd call DISH technical support. They are very good at answering questions like this.

Also, In the Guide settings, there is an option to "Hide Duplicate SD Channels". Set this to ON.

Sadly, only available if using Dish Outdoors. My receiver is an add-on to my home account and thus not able to use the app to change service location. They say it’s coming...I hope soon.

Exactly, even when I'm in my driveway I don't receive my locals in HD.
