Audio/Video Solution

Well, as you all know, I installed the Winegard Traveler and had a Dish tech come out and install the Hopper 3 and Joey in the rig. I had known in the past that it got very hot inside that cabinet where all the A/V equipment are and the tech mentioned that as well and suggested a 12-volt fan to move some air. I agreed and then went one step further and opened up the middle panel of the door and installed a nice looking metal screen and trim to allow air to flow through the door and hopefully solve any heat-related problems. Heat can be a detriment to your electronics and this should relieve those issues.

Nice job. I'm thinking even without the fan that vent would make a measurable difference.

Looks very nice! You would think the AV compartment should be designed that way in the first place.

Yes, I believe that anything would have helped, but with the fan, it will really help to move that hot air out of that confined space!

You would think so, since the Sony audio receiver, the box that selects cable, TV or Sat and the blu ray player are all in there together and now with the addition of the Hopper and Joey, well, that is a lot of electronic heat being generated in a small space!

For a fan to do the job there has to be a path coming in and a path going out. If the fan is setting inside the cabinet with the screen on the door it is moving the air around and not really pulling conditioned air thru the cabinet to remove the hot air. I am sure it works to a certain degree.

My equipment is in the center cabinet above the TV. I installed an axial fan in the divider on the left side sucking conditioned air thru the gap between the doors and the gaps around the edges between the doors and the cabinet face frame. I positioned the fan to suck air from equip cabinet and blow out thru gaps around the door on left cabinet.

I have the fan on a cooling stat so it does not run all the time, only when the temp rises to the setting on the stat.

I put spacer blocks under the Hopper with velcro.

I like the fact that you have the fan on a thermostat. Great idea on air movement as well!

So far, no problem with generated heat in the A/V area--maybe that's next now that I have HD reception.

We had our Hopper shut down before the fan was installed from excessive heat. Gets hot in there especially when the sun is blasting that side of the RV.
