Do your self a favor and save your $$$. Look at the new F350 2wd. The fact is it's a MUCH more capable truck than your current 15. Also consider licensing and insurance costs.

It might as it is in the “ commercial” classification. But you should call your insurance Co to be sure.

There are differences between the 350 vs 450. I believe the 450 has less power as it is detuned, it has bigger tires, larger brakes, better turning radios. If I remember correctly. I would check out a Ford forum as I am sure that that information would be on it. If not, you could always start a thread to get your answers.
But I would have to agree with Ron that the 350 would be more then capiable of towing your DRV listed.
Or you could always just buy a Ram 3500.

Ryan Ryan Ryan! "Or you could always just buy a Ram 3500." Not what he asked! HA

BUT I would have to agree.

The 450 with a pickup bed has the same TQ and HP.

Interested to hear back from OP the cost difference to license and insure each!

Cost will be MUCH more for the F450.

I currently have a 2011 F-450 and in the process of trading for a new F-450. I parked next to a 2018 F-450 4x4 a couple days ago to compare the differences. The 2018 is 3.5 inches taller at the tail gate than the 2011. I have looked at the F-350 and Dodge 3500 and have decided to go with the F-450 again because of the bigger brakes, bigger tires, gear ratio, and tighter turn radius. As far as the cost of insurance, I don't know if it is more or not as I haven't compared it to a 350. I was considering getting the new F-450 4x2 instead of the 4x4 but considered the trade value when it comes time to trade again and backed off that idea. I do know that the 4x2 is one inch taller than the 4x4 at the rear as listed on the spec sheets.

Also either of the GM 3500 models can easily handle the task & in most cases are shorter than either of the others.

I don't know why the 4x2 is taller than the 4x4, maybe something to do with the front sitting lower. I don't know what the turn radius of the 4x2 is either, hopefully the same as the 4x4. I would like to see the 4x2 but can't seem to find one on the lot anywhere.

F450 Insurance

No --- but finding someone to insure it my be a challenge. Most insurance companies consider it a Commercial truck.

We have GEICO -- who gave us a great rate on my 2017 F450 and my wifes 2013 Tacoma. I did have to complete a questionnaire from Geico more or less verifying that this was not a commercial vehicle and would not be used as a commercial vehicle.

I took my rig to MorRyde and with their measurements they installed 3" risers on our trailer.

Once and for all--the 450 pickup is NOT detuned, only the cab/chassis models have less HP and TQ.
My '17 450 is 57.5" at the bed corner and 58" in the middle because of the built-in step lip. Clearance is very sufficient in my setup with no risers, but have heard of many that need/get them anyway.
My '17 450 costs less for the same coverage than my '11 MKX with a value several times lower. TX is a strange/costly state for vehicle insurance.....
BUT, I can't actually answer the OP question......because I don't know.

"Clearance is very sufficient in my setup with no risers"

Have you weighed your axles separately? Before adding my risers I was 1,400# heavier on my rear axle.

My 44' Santa Fe does not have risers. My 4x4 2016 Ford F350 is completely stock. Have a Pulrite Super 24K hitch. Tows perfectly level.

Just looking at the brake specifications; it's easy to see the better choice...

Ron,
Haven't weighed the axles separately, but really not concerned about it since it's almost level.

The 16 and older Fords do NOT need the risers but the 17 and newer do if a person wants their RV to ride "LEVEL".
