fhenn, there is a lot of good information in this thread that is beneficial to a lot of people. The ceiling fan in our DRV’s is useless and this thread is offering good suggestions and ideas. I will delete my post; please keep it open.

Hey, ryno; I removed my fan today and there were 4 wires: black, white, copper and I know all about them. But, a 4th very thin stainless steel braided wire came from the ceiling into the fan motor. There was no place to disconnect it, and darn!, had a heckuvatime cutting it. What is the purpose of that wire?

That is a safety wire that should have been attached to the mounting box that is recessed in the ceiling. My new fan had the same wire. My mounting box had an additional screw just for that purpose.

Thank you. My wife was on the ladder and could not see any connection. Anyway,, it’s cut now.

Another thing about weight. My new fan is about 30 pounds, ~15 more than the oe. Is the mounting box capable of that weight?

As said, it is a O SH@T wire. Incase everything else lets loose the fan will not fall to the floor. My stock fans wire was not connected to anything. It was just pushed up above the electrical box. I attached the new fans wire to the extra screw in the box like the other member did. I hope that you enjoy your fan as much as I enjoy mine.

Holly crap that fan is HEAVY! The fan I installed lists as 10.7 lbs shipped. I would think it would hold it, but you may want to call DRV to see if they think it would hold a 30lbs fan. As I would think that the box is mounted to the aluminum truss.

Well, ryno, with your advice and my wife's, along with DRV's recommendation (Greg Weldon) to not exceed 20 pounds, I've boxed up this fan for return to LampsPlus; free shipping and free returns. I just ordered another one from Amazon at 18 pounds, 44", and 16 degree pitch. Should be here Tuesday.

I really appreciate all the good information and advice that I've received on this thread

I sent the heavy fan back to the mfg and ordered a new one. This one is 18 pounds, 5 blades, 44", and 16 degrees on the blades; it moves a lot of air. My wife finished the installation this afternoon.

As you probably know, the fan rod is mounted on a hemispherical ball at the top. That allows the fan to swing on the ball, left to right, and front to rear. I drilled holes through the bracket in the front, sides, and back, all the way into the ball, and then screwed metal screws into those 3 holes. That stopped the swinging. My fan is rock solid from the ceiling down to the bottom of the fan motor.

Yup you have posted up. How do you like it? How well does it move the air? What make and model is it?

Good morning, ryno. We both love this fan,. With the 16 degree pitch in the blades, it moves a large volume of air, and even rustles the curtains on high. There was a slight wobble on high, so after a few checks, we added the provided weight to one of the blades, and now it’s steady, no movement. Thank you for starting this topic; it’s been very helpful.

Clev; where do you see the blade pitch on these fans? I have looked on the ads and don't see anything listed. Also, is that a 12 inch down rod you are using and it looks like it just clears under the slides when closed?
Do you have a link to that fan on Amazon?
Thanks in advance!

Have you wondered what keeps that ceiling fan attached to the ceiling ?

On mine - 7 staples.

Fan attached to electrical box (without the hold up cable secured)

Box attached to piece of plywood, plywood attached to roof sheathing with staples.

Opened the trailer up today to among other things, fan blades pieces on the floor.

Hi Port. Man, you're luck is almost as bad as mine. When I took down the OE fan, and then took down the 14x14 shroud, the junction/connection box was exposed. Mine had 6 large screws attaching it to the wood/plywood above it. I attached my new bracket with the 2 OE screws into the corners of the box, but the new bracket had 'bat wings', for lack a better word, on either side, that extended past the junction box. I used 3 inch wood screws and drilled 2 in each wing, past the side of the box, into the wooden support that the junction box was attached to. So, the junction box has 6 bolts/screws, my new bracket has 2 screws into the junction box, and 2 on each side screwed into the top planks of the roof. That bracket ain't goin nowhere. Then, after dropping the ball into the bracket, I drilled the bracket into the ball in 3 places (the front is open to insert the ball) screwed in 3 inch wood screws. I believe if I get aggravated enough, and depressed with my disability, I could actually hang myself from this bracket; LOL. Yes, I'm kidding. Oh, and when I say 'I', I actually mean my wife. I give instructions, and she does the job. I am a lucky man.

Clev, where did you purchase this fan and do you have a link for it?

Thanks, Joe
