No, I think they are referring to high end 5th wheel coaches. I have not heard that term used before myself they used to just be Mobile suites but I guess they changed their name after some financial issues.

No, DRV is the name of the manufacture that makes Mobile suites, Estate Suites, Elite Suites and Full House. And Thor bought them in January of this year.

Buying a used DRV is a smart move. We bought our 2007.5 36SB3 in late 11 and have lived in it since. We paid about 1/2 of what it sold for. Now we have ordered a new 39 TKSB3 customized to our liking. We are only losing around 10K from what we paid on the trade.

Especially if the used DRV is pre-Thor...

A lot of members on the other DRV forum where sad when it happened and made some predictions. The referenced Airstream. But time will only tell. I'm hoping having better buying power and having more money to invest in the newest technology in the units are going to happen and just make them better.

We bought our 2008 36rssb3 used from a private party who were upgrading to a bigger RV. Cost much less than new. We have lived in it for three years so far and have had no problems other than wear and tear. No plans to buy a new one as long as this one last.

No financial issues involved. Doubletree RV was the original manufacturer's name; Mobile Suites was the model. The Doubletree hotel folks requested that their trademarked name not be used, so the manufacturer changed the corporate name from Doubletree RV to DRV.

The Mobile Suites was joined by the Elite Suites, Select Suites (later called the Tradition), Estate Suites and the Full House toyhauler models.

I understand the Tradition has been discontinued, probably because it was in direct price competition with the higher line Heartland models. I've also heard that the Estate Suites are being discontinued.

Thankfully, our DRV Mobiles Suites 38RSSA is a PT model - pre-Thor!

Spend the money on a RV tech inspector before you buy any used RV.

X2 on what Phil Saran said. Any used rv should be inspected by an independent rv tech prior to purchase. And check the DOT date on those tires.

We bought ours used and love it. The previous owners took good care of our baby.
We stopped by the DRV factory in Howe, ID this summer and we were assured that DRV was to be operated as an independent company despite being owned by Thor. The staff there was very happy about the acquisition.

If you purchase used through a dealer, the dealer is a make it break it situation, new as well. And there are a lot of crappy dealers out there. Been there.

Very true. However, some have had the good fortune to have been on the different forums that relate to DRV's for a number of years and have learned from others what dealerships are good ones to deal with. I guess the two top ones would be RV's for Less in Tennessee and Rolling Retreats in Elk City, Oklahoma.

We started researching for an RV back in early 2008, when we first registered on the SOITC website. I don't know if many of the older owners (older meaning they've had their Suites longer) have made it over here or not, so if one wanted their experiences with dealerships, one would need to register at SOITC and ask around.
