2016 changes

I just did a tour of the plant again and I am at Moryde and there is a new MS waiting to be aligned and then sent back for the finishing touches. I will post up the last 4 of the vin tomarrow and what changes I see mid way through the 2016 models.

The last 4 of the vin are 8126.

The changes that I see in the 2016.5 models are.
1. Different aloy rim
2. The changed the paint design on the coach
3. They have metal slam latch handle assemblies
4. They no longer use tapered screws on the rails on the coach.

I will try and upload some pics of them also.

Paint from the front, this is Mobil Suite as it is not full body paint and does not have full clear coat.

Rear shot. 2016.5 on the right and my early 2016 pin the left. Please excuse the dirt as I was not planning on taking a pic and posting it.

I certainly hope not. We've been in our 2016 for about a week. It has all the new changes. We absolutely love this coach. Haven't discovered broken screws outside yet, but have noticed that they still use short screws in the cabinet doors and such.

If DRV would just buy a case or two of 3/4" screws and throw away all those 1/2" screws they have laying around, it would save us owners a ton of frustration. It might up the cost of each DRV unit by $5 or so.

We have the new screws at the end of the strips. I'm thinking the head connection is thicker and is why they switched. Plus as a bonus I bet the strips are cheaper as they do not need to be tappered. A plus for both of us.

I don't think they replaced the screws because the new ones are any thicker or stronger. I think it's because flat head or oval head screws are unforgiving with respect to spacing because of the taper on the backside of the head. Differential thermal expansion between the fiberglass wall and metal trim strip will alter the spacing between the screws and holes and will eventually cause a screw head here or there to pop off.

Round head or pan head screws, especially if the hole in the metal strip has a little clearance, will allow a little movement between the screw and the metal strip.

It's called to small of a SCREW FOR THE CONDITIONS. Also running the screws up with an impact gun. Also using a driller screw for the material being screwed into is a big factor. Pre drilling and using sheet metal screws will eliminate this problem.

They will be replacing ALL my screws next May when going in for warranty work at DRV.

My 2004 popped trim screws!! A logical person would think that after 11 years they would have figured this out.... Perhaps they have - time will tell.

Agreed! It's pathetic they think it's fine to use driller screws on EVERYTHING!

Our 07.5 had the same issues.

Well, if enough people have all the screws replaced under warranty, that should get some changes made...I hear they finally put a shorter cable on the black tank valve?

You heard right Joe, while we were there in November having our valves looked at the guy giving us the factory tour told us they are indeed using a new style valve with a shorter cable.

While there we met Rynosback and ended up on the same factory tour with him and his wife.

OK, I get the fact that we pay lots of money for these things and expect everything to be perfect. What I don't get is the big deal being made over 50 cents worth of screws. The trim piece is not structural in any way. It is a decorative piece to hide a seam in the side wall. Caulk could probably hold it just as well!

Cummins, keep us informed when they replace all of your screws under warrenty. I'm real interested in seeing what your paint job looks with all those shiney little dots on it. Or maybe a bunch of miscolored little dots.

I do however agree that this seems to be a concern of some people they should have been quicker to address the "problem". By the way, we are living in our 5th new DRV currently. NONE of them have ever popped a single screw. So maybe the problem isn't really very wide spread? Same thing with the dump valves. Good luck in your ventures. Bill

The big deal is that, by spending perhaps $1.00 instead of $0.50 on these trim screws, this might not be a problem. It's called being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

It is a known problem for many years that the screws either pop loose or the head pops off. My screws will be replaced and they will be painted to match. The pic Ryan posted showing round head screws along the strip I HOPE are going to be the solution. I like the look of my flat head screws but if it keeps them from popping I can deal with the round heads.
