There are low pressure and high pressure regulators. A typical box store propane grill has a low pressure regulator that runs directly off of the propane tank. The propane tank can be anywhere from 100-200 psi depending on the temperature of the tank. That’s why we use a regulator. Most bbq grills are 40k btu or less therefore low pressure regulator. I have a 160k btu burner on my brew stand and it has a high pressure regulator to get enough gas flow. Low pressure regulation is typically 1 psi and high pressure regulation can be up to 60 psi depending on the application. My brew stand uses a fixed 30 psi high pressure regulator.
If you run a grill that has a low pressure regulator directly off of the propane tank with an extend a stay tee then you should be fine. If you try to run the same grill off of the regulated side then it won’t work unless the regulator is removed. Regulating the regulated pressure just doesn’t work.

Grills
PS. The propane pressure going into the coach after the 2 stage regulator is 11 w.c or 1/3 psi. That’s all the pressure appliances need.

I'm not sure how I always get into these dispute type discussions. Cummins, Port, to refresh your memories, I received advice from both of you and some pictures about hooking up my Coleman. We had a long discussion over a period of days. And yes, I completely removed the regulator from the grill and basically had a straight shot from the RV hook up to the grill. There was just enough pressure to light it but it had a low, flickering flame, too low to cook on. I had already contacted Coleman about this mod and was informed that the pressure provided by the RV system would be too low to operate the Road Trip. I tried every possible hookup and IT JUST DOES NOT WORK!! Or maybe I should say that mine DOES NOT WORK!! It works great on bottled gas that provides strong pressure.

clev you must be the one I remembered having issues with his Coleman. I have shown pics several times of what I have done my my Weber BabyQ. I don't think I have ever given specific Coleman info as I don't have one or ever experienced one.
Glad I wasn't dreaming there was an issue!

I have the Coleman Road Trip and run it off of the RV or bottle/tank. I have two different hoses to do so. Getting the proper Coleman Road Trip fitting to run it off of the RV was a chore but finally got the right parts and it works great.

Terry,
I think I sent you pics....
I use an adjustable regulator.
I use an adapter right at the tank with a quick connect. I get tank pressure at the hose then regulate it at the grill.
The regulator is touchy, but it will flow all the propane that the grill can handle.
I typically have to adjust it once after initial hook up, only because the knob gets bumped moving it from storage to use. I have a sharpie mark where i usually set it.

You’re correct, cummins; maybe my post was misleading. You gave me advice, with pictures, and adapter recommendations, based on your unit, not the Coleman. Same thing with Port. Very good info from both of you.

So you have an accessory port from your regulated RV tanks, hooked into the regulated Road Trip, and it works? I’m making assumptions, because you said that you used it both ways, bottle and RV. You need the grill’s regulator for the bottle, and unless you go to the trouble of removing it for RV hook up, it’s double regulated. I’m not flaming your post, I’m curious. I have all the adapters, valves, and fittings and the rv pressure is just too low. Tell me your secret.

I have a nice portable Nexgrill I purchased at Lowe’s that I replaced the propane line on with a line from Etrailer and it works great! The grill was $99 and the line was only $12.99. The line from Etrailer does not have a regulator and has a male quick connect one end and a 1/4” female standard connection on the other. On my RV the propane connection is already regulated to low pressure. I did this due to the limited and expensive “low pressure “ grills offered. on the market. Good luck!

I have the same grill and set up. Hoping it works as well on the Palazzo as it did on the fiver as soon as the quick connect is installed.:dance

Gas Grills
I have a THOR ACE 30.4. I purchased a 22” Blackstone Grill to use with my RV propane supply line. I have purchased a quick connect fitting and hose to attach to the supply line.
I took off the grill regulator and then I connected the hose from the propane supply line to the grill. I turned on the supply propane and tried to light the grill but could not, no flame. I’m frustrated!
Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?
Dan

I have $99 Stainless Steel grill from Sams (Costco has comparable) and Blackstone 17" from Amazon. Both run from a single 20# tank with Y adapter. I place them on portable table with aluminum roll top.

We bought that Sams $99 SS grill a couple of years ago. We returned it as we thought it was pretty large.

Doesn't "large" just mean "larger playing field"?

I do not plan on grilling Dino the dinosaur steaks. Very happy with my porter and NY strips.

Outdoor grill
My Miramar came with a grill with stand that hooks up to the outside port. It's super convenient but the grill itself is not the best. There is little to no temperature control and the dome isn't high enough to do something like a beer can chicken.
When converting an appliance remember to remove the regulator as well. The outside outlet is already regulated down. We're considering purchasing an outdoor fire pit. They are popular in Canada but haven't seen anyone use them on our travels state side. It's been a cool and wet trip from Alberta to Texas so could use some heat outside. Does anyone know if there are regulations against an outdoor gas fired pit?
