How to Back up a Trailer

I just saw this this over on RV Net, thought I'd share it here.

Volkswagen Trailer Assist

That's pretty impressive! Make sure you watch how they did it..

The latest F-150, however, does have a trailer backing assist feature:

Funny on the VW one.

As for the other on the F150, such a thing wouldn't surprise me. They are getting vehicles to back themselves into parallel parking spaces and braking for the driver. How long before we wear a helmet and out thoughts operate the vehicle.

I can hear it now:

"Honey, let me drive. Your sneezing and coughing fits might wreck us."

No helmet will be required -- the computer will act completely on its own. Autonomous cars are just a few years away. They already do a fairly good job on Interstates. It's city driving that seems to be more difficult to perfect.

Just get in and tell your car to drive you "home" and it will take care of it all. Or tell it to drive you to Aunt Lucy's and it will figure out best route to avoid traffic, etc. In a way I find it exhilarating and in another scary. Not for fear of getting hurt, but fear that we are losing ourselves in technology.

Reminds me of the old (fictional) story about the Winnebago driver that "supposedly" set the motorhome on cruise control and got up to use the bathroom. Pretty soon we'll be able to do it for real.

Terry, just imagine someone wearing a helmet as you suggested and 'ROAD RAGE' kick in! YIKES!
