How much weight do you carry?

Thank you to everyone for the conversation. This is my first RV and this really helps getting a handle on weight and balance. I do not see us overloading our rig but will keep an eye on where the weight is located.

Your dry weight in the brochure is a basic trailer with no extras.

My trailer as built weighed 2200 pounds more then the brochure weight.
Some of the options that added weight.
3,000 watt inverter
fiberglass roof
8KW diesel generator
15 gallon diesel tank
Washer and Dryer
Slide out tray
2" risers

On average I'd say we have over 2,000 pounds of stuff in the RV

The CAT scale phone app works pretty good for weighs.

You pull up, open the app, follow the prompts. Makes it easy to weigh, go around back and drop the trailer and do a re-weigh.
The app is setup for the re-weigh option.

Unless you want the certified ticket you don't have to go inside, you can pay through the app.

You get an email with a PDF file of the weigh ticket, but it can't be used fo certification. Although it looks identical to the ticket you get from the attendant.

Because of weight rating limitations the trailers are spec'd differently.

Mine and yours are a good example.
(the 39DBRS3 is a "baby Houston")

39DBRS3 2 axles at 9K each plus 3K for the pin = 21K rating
Houston 3 axles at 8K each and zero for the pin = 24K rating

AFAIK, 24K is the max rating for recreational RV's

For the DRV side, 24k is the limit because of the MoRyde pin box is limited to 24k. DRV won't say what the rating is with a solid pinbox. But if the frame held together, one could assume that 3-8k axles = 24k + 25% pin weight if it was a traditional axle spread for another 6k of weight... So could the pin area framing and welding hold 30k? Possibly if the kid at Lippert was having a good Wednesday at his welding station... but that thin wall tubing is gonna hate it!
SpaceCraft and New Horizon both have traditional 5th wheel floorplans that are 28-32k for the standard build. Then you can always go to the SpaceCraft semi-frame RV that can go to 52k lbs or so.

Duane, why is there not any accounting for pin weight on a triple axle? It is gonna have something, why not go at it like the 39? Gonna learn something here, I think...

Our new rig empty sat at 20400 with a pin of 3000 lbs which is just 15%. We pulled it from Lazy Days Fl to North Dakota empty and it chucked the whole way. Even now loaded at 24800lbs our pin is 4950 which is closet o 20% pin weight is better. The chucking empty could be felt thru the MorRyde pin box, TrailerSaver Hitch and Semi truck. I could see it more than feel it, but it moved around a lot empty. If the axles were moved rearward about 30+ inches, it would make a huge difference, but then it would make the pin to heavy for many of the dually trucks.

You are welcome. I came up with this Mod. Could NOT get DRV to let Cummins/Onan do the install no way no how. So I had Slade do it.


240V dryer and not able to run it??? That is a No Bueno!!!

Same EXACT gen as standard 6500 but this unit has two legs.

The diesel sits lower in the bay then the standard 5500, and although I haven't compared side by side, the mount is different. Cutout, beams etc.

Onan had the gen installed by noon on a Friday, so I guess 3-5 hour install.
What I still haven't been able to get an answer on is why did the trailer sit at Onan for the next 17 days - unpainted - uncaulked.

Is the diesel Onan louder compared to propane? Also, where would place the diesel tank to run the fuel to the Onan. Just curious since I will be purchasing a DRV in the near future.
