Lower Cap

So this is pretty awesome. The lower cap actually popped out back in October, but we put silicone over it until a dealer could get to it. The dealer in Billings was booked up until we had to leave, so we are now in the hands of the dealer here in Lake Havasu. I did have a mobile tech come out to see if he could fix it, and DRV agreed to reimburse me for the service. The tech said there was no chance he would even attempt it. I then took pictures to the dealer so we could get something scheduled. Here comes the frustration-the technician said that he needs to see it in person so they can determine if they need to order a new cap or not. Okay, so when can someone swing by? Nope! They would not send anyone out to the park. I had to button everything up and drag the trailer across town so they could look at it for five minutes. They determined that they could fix it and will probably be able to get me in sometime after Christmas. Here's the best part-Talking with the factory rep about the situation, I asked about hotel reimbursement if needed while the trailer is getting repaired. He said that most dealerships will set it up outside and let you sleep in it while they get it fixed. Unfortunately, I have two big dogs that I need to deal with, so we need a room. Apparently it is against their policy to reimburse for hotel rooms. I remained polite and professional throughout all these conversations, but it was incredibly difficult to do so. I could continue this rant by going off about how much I spent on the unit to avoid these problems and have factory support when they do arise, but I should probably stop now.

Thanks for listening, I just needed to vent a little.

I just looked at mine and it's fine but I wonder what holds the cap up there? It looks like the trim cap pc covers the bottom cap edge.

Right? One would think there would be some kind of lip to keep the piece locked in. I'm going to try to be there when the dealership fixes it so I can see what is going on and take pictures. We'll see if they allow that...

Man that sucks. I am just glad I carry some duck tape. I hope that you get it fixed quickly. I to had a concern about being out of rig as we are fulltimers. DRV started that they do not pay for lodging.

We're taking it into the dealership tomorrow. They're hoping to get it fixed in one day.

I feel that I've been very patient with the issues we've had on our rig, but I spent more on this sucker than a lot of people do for their house, expecting the best in craftsmanship and factory support. Not paying for lodging seemed like a huge slap to the face. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

You're aware, I suspect, that the ultimate decision-making in customer service-related matters in Howe now is in the hands of a Thor (i.e., a transfer over from Heartland) individual. We were all wondering what kinds of changes the Thor purchase would bring.....

Taking over the industry, Thor is.

Wait, that's a Star Wars reference. I'm not sure if there is a way to type in a Thor voice... How bout this-

Well they're sure "dropping the hammer" on future DRV sales!

Thanks.

So far Sunshine has been pretty good to deal with. I was thinking I would get in until January looking at their schedule, so when we talked on Monday (I think I took it down there Thursday or Friday of last week) to let me know it could be in tomorrow I was pleasantly surprised.

Agreed on the strangeness of the cap popping out where it did.

So we have our trailer back. Major props to the guys at Sunshine RV in Lake Havasu, AZ. Not only for getting the rig in and out of their shop in a short period of time, but also for their honesty. While they were able to reposition the cap back into place to where it looks pretty much like it did from the factory, turns out the cap itself has a defect that occurred during manufacturing where the area in question has a 1/2" deviation from where it should be. They could have easily pushed it into place and covered up the error (like the manufacturing employee did) to get me on my way where the cap would have eventually popped out again, but instead they have ordered a new cap that will need painted on arrival. So that's a plus in an unpleasant situation.

That's disturbing but sounds like it will be taken care of.

Tell me about it. I thought I was buying one of the best built 5vers on the market. But to date they have been great with backing up there warranty. Aren't you at the factory now with your punch list?
