How was your Solar Eclipes day?

I know this is off topic but I thought I had to post it as it is not a common event. I'm in Davis WVA and saw about 85%. Took these pics with my solar glasses.

Was great day in that we lucked out. The weather was bad earlier in morning but cleared as the time for eclipse approached. During total eclipse the sky was clear around the sun so we got a great show. Well worth the long drive.

We drove to Wichita on Sunday, planning to drive to Beatrice, Nebraska on Monday morning. But due to weather forecast, we shifted slightly to northwest and went to the little town of Geneva, Nebraska.

I heard from family member that she had seen NASA pictures from Beatrice, so I'm guessing we would have been OK either way.

I couldn't get good pictures of sun/moon, but will see if I can post one of área during darkness. By the way, it didn't get as dark as I'd expected. I though it would be pitch black, but it wasn't.

Overall an enjoyable quick trip so far -- hope to get home later today.

But my Missus kept risking her eyeballs, and got a pretty decent shot of it.

We are a little south of Salem and it was interesting. Bats actually came out of the trees and started to feed for about 15 minutes the disappeared back into the trees. Quite a site.

We were at an RV park in Central California, very uneventful there, barley noticeable. As we were quite a few miles south of the 'total sweep' it was not surprising.

It was great. Watched the total eclipse from my deck, No traffic, hassles, or other distractions. We were just lucky to be in the exact center.

I was near Durango Colorado with overcast skies, so not very eventful for me!

This is a phone camera picture of viewers at fairgrounds a couple of minutes before it got dark. Prior to this the area was a little lighter, but not that different. It stayed fairly light until right before totality.

Within a minute or two it got dark, but still enough light from distance to see OK.

An interesting occurrence was how shadows form as light passed through trees. This is after totality, while shape prior to totality was reversed (mirror image). I was not aware of this until pointed out by another viewer.

The small spaces between the leaves create many pinhole cameras for the eclipse to show through. On The Weather channel they were using a colander to illustrate that.

We had booked a whole weekend trip which included astronomy talks with about a hundred like minded nerdy individuals. A few of the talks were given by Dr. Pamela Gay (she was on The Weather Channel pretty much all day--she abandoned us for TWC). The trip had us all going to Carbondale, IL some of us chose to go to a private observing field just a few miles Southwest, the rest went to the festival at the college there in Carbondale. The ones at the observing field won out as a stubborn cloud blocked totality from many of the festival attendees. At the observing field (where we went) about 30 seconds before totality the cloud over us completely dissipated and we got to see everything.

Nice pics, didn't really notice here in cedaredge CO; we spent most of the day on the phone trying to find lost forms from the company I retired from.

Happy for all those of you that had a clear view.

We had adjusted our plan from eastern SC to Anderson in NW South Carolina due to a better forecast. As Monday wore on, the cloud cover increased. We had glimpses through openings in the clouds as the partial advanced, but total cloud cover at the peak. A lot of disappointed people where we were.

Missed the corona, but we still experienced the 2 1/2 minutes of darkness, which was stunning. Not happy with the local forecaster that assured us all morning that it would be clear there!

We drove from Durham NC to Eutawville, SC to a Campground that was close to the centerline of the eclipse. Very hot and lots of mosquitoes but we lucked out on the weather. We saw the first half of the eclipse to totality in clear sky then the clouds came in and we didn't see the second part of the eclipse.
