Look closer - a stainless steel strainer with a silicone ring around the outside to keep it in place.

You got it. I do not think it is just to keep it in place. It is so you do not dig it into your shower pan.

Bed Bath and Beyond also carry those strainers. I used them on my boat when out of the water to keep all the tree crap out of the scuppers.
