Surprise!

I pulled the trim from both fantastic fans to run some cable in the ceiling for my cell phone booster cable. As I looked in the attic I found an 8" piece of black vent pipe and the ceiling material that had been cut out for the vents shoved into the insulation

Apparently it's cheaper to shove garbage in the attic rather than toss them in the dumpster

Because the guys onthe line are paid to do certain things to an amount of units, piece mill. So the faster they move the sooner they can go home. As they make the same money if it takes them 6 or 8 hours.

I pulled the passenger side workstation out today to access the battery. In there, there were about 12 screws and 3 if those nice wire harness tie straps. Inventory time at Thor must be a real eye opener.

Nope, just means several units didn't get all the screws and wire holders.

DRV told me their guys ALL are paid by the hour. I know some RV manufacturers are piece work.

Interesting Ron. I remember DRV telling me that they work on piece mill. That some guys leave early and some are there later. But does it really matter?

If DRV paid by the hour every person in Indiana would want work for them & wouldn't improve the QC even a little bit.

Back in the day; piece mill, was called "Incentive rate". An hourly rate was set and if you did better than that rate, you received, incentive pay. You didn't leave early. You just made more money. Quality control checks were strict and often. Inspectors were respected and feared. They could shut you down and cost you money.
Thor needs to drop the "Piece Mill" system. I would suspect that, there is pressure between assemblers and inspectors. I can hear it now: "Dude, if I have to redo that installation, I'll have to work 8 hours today".

I'm shocked that EVERY manufacture or at least the high end one do not do this process below. The story of what made me think of it.
Having gone to the DRV factory for warranty work and listening. I found out that there are ALOT of the same repairs that happen on most rigs. Heck the factory techs even find things that I did not notice because they see them everyday. So I asked the tech, why don't you guys have meetings with the guys on the line that build these once a month to discuss, analyze and trouble shoot why certain issues keep reoccurring? And then figure out what can be done to stop it from happening. I think the tech said something like, there was not enough time or they would not approve the time it would take. I know, it sounds like a REALLY simple idea of quality controll. I guess once company's get big, they run like governments. Sometimes the most common sense ideas are overlooked and not implemented.

If they kept track of who was building the rigs with the problems: they'd know who should be getting a shiny new PINK SLIP!

No, they still wouldn't do anything.

It costs them less to fix only the issues that are reported, than to do it all right in the first place.

That is true. Someone at DRV said to me that people see different things. What I consider is an issue others may not. And this is not even taken into consideration that more then likely most of there owners might only be in there rig for just weeks in a year. To me, that is a wrong and horrible mind set to have building a high end 5ver.

"I can hear it now: "Dude, if I have to redo that installation, I'll have to work 8 hours today".

Do you really think they WOULD redo that installation? I bought used to try to avoid some of the mistakes mentioned on the forums. So far, only a cabinet door that dis-assembled itself due to lack of glue...
