Tire blow out!

Well, they say problems come in three's, so hopefully, I have received my share for the year! Heading back toward Tennessee yesterday, we blew a back tire on the rig. Believe me when I say blew! We were on the Cumberland Pkwy in KY and on the two lane portion to boot! Finally found a safe area to pull over and change the tire. Thankfully, a young man stopped and offered assistance and two state troopers with lights and vests, directed traffic to slow down while I worked.
Some damage to the side of the rig, but not bad. Will be ordering a new tire on Tuesday. Goodyear is proud of these!

I would have thought that the H rated GY would be pretty much bullet proof.

Joe,
Take what is left of tire to a GY real store and file a claim--several forum members have said they will stand behind tire/damage if the claim is handled correctly. Should have remains of tire and it needs to be a GY store, not just a dealer, if I remember right.

Glad it wasn't too bad. And, yes, the GY 114s aren't cheap.

Rear tire may be road hazard but GY will determine that. YES be sure to go to a GY "OWNED" Dealer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contact their customer support and ask for the number to the area rep explain what happened and see if he can help with getting things handles as in a free replacement tire.

Yes they should give you a credit for the tire. On a trailer, I had one GY blowout and two separate and go flat on one trip several years ago. All were made in China as I soon learned, and all 4 tires were new before trip.
They gave me credit for all three + one still standing that I removed. There was not much left of the blown tire, but the other two had wall separation. The one still up had bubbles on the side wall.

How many miles on the tire? Any unusual wear sign before it blew? We've got a little over 30,000 on our Goodyear G114's and they're wearing funny and we're thinking about replacing them very soon with Yokohama RY023's. They're half the price but have the same ratings. Our Goodyears are wearing on the outsides of all the tires even though I keep them inflated at 115 psi. Plus they're getting a scalloped or cupped wear pattern on the outside treads. We're also looking into getting the Morryde suspension aligned sometime soon since that may be a cause of the wear. I just repacked the bearings and they are still very solid, no freeplay or slop when I checked, so that's not probably not the cause.

This is what my tires looked like running in the upper weight limits of the tires running 125psi. One tire had center tread loss with no air loss, the other three were replaced under warranty.

If your tires look like this contact GY and ask for the number of the local area rep and a GY owned store to go to. They will replace every tire that looks like this.

If your date code is near this one you have tread separation.

Look at your tire date code i'm betting it will be close to mine!

Thanks to all who responded. Yes, I will contact GY tomorrow and see if they can help. All our tires look like new and I have never had a tire blow before. I checked them that morning and air pressure at 120 lbs. I do still have what is left of the tire on the rim itself. It will have to be removed by a tire store. Any help on price will be nice as I have not seen one less then $425 so far!

So did they replace the tire in the 2nd picture Ron? I ask because I have one or two like that. I have been watching them very closely.

It may be a range of tire dates that are giving out like in '06.
Mine are 36 14 and have been doing their job.

The wear in the second picture is most likely cause from sharp turning...the tires actually scuff across the pavement...edge first as the tire tries to fold over itself. Common with trailers of all types.

Yes they did.

I advise NOT watching any longer!!! The one with tread loss looked the same 10 minutes before parts were coming off!

There is something "FISHY" about their weights and I believe they have a 38'.

The center three ribs are actually delaminating in the pic, this is FACT for these tires. YES other tires can look like that especially if they are under inflated for their load.
