hello & question?

Hello everybody! Im a inch away from pulling the trigger on a 2017 Challenger or Tuscany. My question is has anyone here purchased theres out of state so far away its not practical or possible to keep running back to the original dealer for problems?

Im really curious to hear what your experiences have been dealing with Thor and service centers trying to get things fixed away from the original dealer before i buy. Thanks

Chris

I did not purchase out of state and I can not comment on the Tuscany. We did purchase our Challenger from a dealer 100 miles from the house. During the shakedown cruise we had one slide problem for which Thor reimbursed for a mobile tech. Other than that issue my coach has been to the dealer one time for its end of warranty visit.

We performed a good PDI and made the dealer correct 2 items before I would sign the final paperwork.

All of my contact with Thor has been very good. They have responded to all of my email inquiries and provided me with the info I requested within 3 days of the request, normally they respond by the next day. We did have an issue of the parts department sending me the wrong seal (exterior instead of interior) for my slide but that was corrected by emailing the parts person a picture of the end profile for the seal I needed. As a note, the missing seal is what caused my slide issue during the shakedown.

Bottom line, make sure you do a good PDI and everything works before you sign taking delivery. Before you sign its the dealer's coach, after you sign its you coach to include the issues the dealer did not correct.

Also, we are extremely happy with the Challenger.

Chris,
Make sure to search this forum about buying a motorhome. There are some caveats that you should know.
  • There is no lemon law that pertains to motorhomes
  • Other than the Selling Dealer, dealers are not under any obligation to service your unit.
  • Make sure the Dealer-Walk-Thu at the time of purchase is complete. Start everything. Drive the unit.

With all that said, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I bought mine from a dealer 175 miles away from me. I have my rig serviced at a local Thor approved repair facility (not a dealer). That is because the local dealer said that they could not schedule an appointment for 6 months since I didn't purchase it from them. Owning an RV is like being a Boy Scout. One week you get your generator badge. The next week you get your wiring badge.

The people that I have met in my RV are fantastic. Come here often to get advice and share experiences. Pull into an RV site and immediately you have friends all around you.

Safe travels.
