Just bought 25.2 Axis

Just brought my new axis home. Found the steering very loose. The rooftop AC not working. Hope I am not going to regret this. I was so excited as this is my first RV and I have wanted one for so long! Finding useful info here though!

Just wanted to introduce myself

Lyn

Hi Lyn,
Welcome aboard! First, sorry about your issues. You shold have tested the AC on the dealer walk-thru. When you say it doesn't work, how? Do you understand that the rooftop AC requires either the generator running or the unit plugged into shore power. If that fails, take it back to the dealer.

The second issue is different. You probably need a front end alignment. The dealer may or not pay for it. Thor may or may not pay for it. Search the forum.

Best of luck, safe travels.

We did test it on the lot at first it wasn't working but they fixedl it. Got home didn't work. I know gen must be running or be plugged in. Dealer 5 1/2 hours away. We have appt at camper world near us but they are taking appt two weeks out. So need to wait

I would suspect a loose wire somewhere. The dealer got it to work but, perhaps, didn't realize it would loosen up again. Perhaps a phone call to the dealer to ask them what they did to fix it may point you in the right direction...

Unlike most things, if you can fix something yourself in your RV you'll want to do it. You won't really void the warranty because you'll do a better job than the dealer anyway

Fortunately for me the hubby is pretty handy. While he couldn't figure it out today. He said just what you said he will call to see what he did and see if he can get it working. Fingers crossed.

Be careful with Camping World. Some of them do not have the best reputation. Check out yours with this online site.

It does sound like a bad wire.

Just a thought but do you have your coach batteries switch in the store or use position? Not sure it matters...

Welcome Lyn,
You'll love your Axis. I have the 2016 25.2 Vegas, so we are in same machine. I'm sure you'll get your AC up in no time.
There is a learning curve with these and this forum is a great asset.
I also got an alignment and added a Safe-T-Plus steering control. It drives like an SUV now. The Safe-T-Plus is like a horizontal Shock absorber/spring mounted to front end. Once installed, it reduces workload alot and always seeks center. Here is a link to the one you would need... Model #31-140 | Safe-T-Plus - The Steering Control Specialists If you are mechanical you could do it yourself...they would happily talk you through it..... but we were close enough to the factory that we just made it a road trip. Nice folks. They have a list of dealers on their site.
We also have installed (today) a privacy curtain on a tension rod just aft of microwave, so that you don't have to change inside the bathroom if privacy is needed.

Anyway, welcome.... let us know what you found out about the AC!

You will likely regret buying from Camping World, and you may have the RV in the shop for 1/2 of the first year you own it. Hopefully you will be able to fix many problems yourself. My local CW won't take an appointment, they say bring it , leave it for 2 weeks then we look at it. So a month at least and they never do fix it. So off to another place to have the job done right. It took me 1 1/2 years to get my RV "fixed" so good luck. On the flip side meeting people at parks, campgrounds and the general way of life is very good. To bad RV dealers are not like car dealers in the service department.

You might want to check an independent dealer for your work. Call Thor and fin authorized repair dealers for your unit and may save you some time and trouble. The information from many people on this sight seem to have had better luck on repairs from smaller dealers. Welcome and enjoy your journeys.

We did not buy from camping world. We bought from a small dealership however they are a far distance from us as they were the closest that had the model we wanted in stock. Otherwise we would have had to order a 2017 and wait 8-12 weeks for delivery and wouldn't have gotten it for the price we did.
Camper World just happens to be close to us so we thought we would try them for repairs. The ratings we saw some were excellent some not so we shall see. There are other dealers by us we can try if they don't work out.

Hi Bill, You mentioned putting up a privacy curtain in your 25.2 just aft of the microwave so as to not have to use the bathroom. We were looking for the same privacy option in our week old Axis 25.2. We set up the rear bedroom in “day bed” layout so we could have that changing room without using the rear slide or bathroom. We are both no more than 5’8’’ tall so we have another option to rest without sliding out the full queen bed. I noticed a few months ago some folks were concerned about the bed-fold in the 25.2 … this option works for us OK. Have attempted to upload photos ... they are all taken with the rear slide in.

Looks nice! Did you just replace the mattress? With a single bed one?

No, Lyn, That's the standard mattress on our 2017 Axis 25.2. We simply removed the packaging thick plastic cover since it is "crinkly" and noisy to sleep on. (Picked up a Macy's very thin 100% cotton one side / rubber other side mattress cover to use when using in queen bed mode.) After removing the thick plastic cover the standard mattress folds flat as shown with the slide in. (a $10.00 little folding step stool from CW makes easier to jump up on the "day-bed" and Terry and I have slept in small beds around the world including on old Russian spy vessels etc. so we may go with the slide in mode to sleep rather than the sofa or power-down bed if we're in a place we can't use the slide.)
So essentially we have 2 options for use of the rear bedroom area rather than driving down the road with the slide in and the bed covers etc. all in place and the mattress folded up against the forward wall of the bedroom. We removed the original supplied bed cover and put it in vacuum pack till we sell the unit.
We're thinking we'll only have the queen bed in use 10%-15% of our total time in the unit so it's not too much of a task to make up the bed when we need it. Also think the unit is more functional and may look a little better from the inside when the slide is in giving us 2 ways to use that area. Plenty of room for changing for us. Now we're looking for a thin, non-glass mirror to go on the bedroom wall on the passenger side to augment the changing functionality, thin enough to go on the wall behind the door when open.
Best Regards, James

Hi again, Lyn, you mentioned you folks are “handy” so we suggest you get scissors some zip ties, roll of one-wrap Velcro tape (not the sticky type) and gorilla tape/strong duct tape and plan to spend a little time under the unit. We picked up our new 2017 Axis 25.2 last week we stopped for fuel after about 100 miles. We noticed some wiring hanging down under the unit. So after at home in the driveway and up on leveling blocks it was time to investigate and fix. Lots of “opportunities” to secure wires and wire tubes. Also we found a section on the driver’s side of about 6 feet of valances really poorly attached to the walls. So fixed the wires to be secure and took photos of the poor valance attachment for “warranty list.”
However, it’s not unusual for wiring to be looser than ideal in lots of new vehicles and a few screws not well placed. We don’t expect total Prevost quality at the Thor Axis price point.

I also went to big truck repair shop that thor recommended had front and rear alignment and asked them to tighten up steering the did all they could much better. Running 82 lbs in front tires and 80 in back and that was much improvment. No wind I can drive with one hand. Love it on 900 mile trip right now. Have fun.
