New Axis 25.1

We just bought a 2015 Axis 25.1 last week. Very excited about going on our first trip in March or April. If the snow ever melts!
I actually can't believe I did that, especially since I've never owned or rented a RV before. Very excited about all the fun the family will have
We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and the Axis seem to fit our needs for now.

Well, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi!

Congratulations and welcome to the forums.
Given your lack of RV experience and having a brand new RV I'd suggest that your first trip be a short weekender close to home (or even simply camp at home). That way if you forgot something, or something goes wrong its not that big of a trek (in addition, having small children you don't want to drive too far anyway).

Thanks JamieGeek. That's our plan this year. No long trip in 2015! We are planning on going to different campgrounds and cities around the Midwest, 4 hour drive maximum.

Thank you Larry, Bruce.
One thing I noticed from reading RV forums, RV owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Being a rookie, I know I will be posting questions on almost a daily basis. I just ask for your patience. LOL!

Bruce,
I see you own the Axis 25.1. how do you like it so far? Is the air mattress in the rear seating area comfortable? That was my only concern when we looked at this unit.

I've been using the drop down bunk with the inflatable. Today, my foam mattress for the bunk arrived so I decided to try making up the rear bed with the inflatable.

Apparently, I don't know how to do it right as the results I got were dismal.

I purchased the 25.1 because of the dinette. I had no intention of using the rear as a bed. It's my TV room

To get back to the rear bed, there is a mismatch between the height of the air mattress and the seat cushion. Also, I had the seat cushion on the outside. It probably should be on the inside next to the wall. You would need a foam topper on the seat cushion to even it up and then a good fitted mattress pad to tie the air mattress and the seat cushion together.

I think the best solution would be to replace the twin air mattress with a full size air mattress for the rear.

Did your dealer demonstrate how to set up the rear bed? If so, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,
The image didn't come thru.
The dealer removed the seat and back cushions and placed the twin mattress on the pullout portion. It fits a twin mattress. Not enough for 2 people!
I was planning on buying a couple of folding 3" foam mattresses to fit the entire back area.

When it is folded out it is 54" wide by 72" long. Two friendly people should fit.

I'm wintering in NC in mine.

I'll share your comment about the mattress with the wife

Enjoy your time in NC. Can't wait for the weather to start warming up in Ohio to enjoy our Axis

So, I finally went to the dealer to pick up our Axis. Before I left I remembered some of the issues a few members had with the wipers. I turn the wipers and washer..Click, the fuse breaks. 2 hours later General RV in Canton repaired the issue by replacing the pump.
Take the RV home and start messing around with, I open the access panel below the sink and notice water on the plywood. Apparently, Thor never tightened the sink drain!!!
So far, that's the only issue we had. We went on a long weekend trip with the family. The unit drove really well. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to drive this thing.
we bought a 5"x58"x72" memory foam mattress for rear area and it was very comfortable. I'm 6'0" tall and slept comfortably.
Overall, we are very happy with the purchase so far

I had the same issue with my Challenger during the shake down cruise. I couldn't check the sink drains during the PDI due to cold weather and the coach being winterized. When I noticed the problem, I ate some spinach and hand tightened the large drain flange on the bottom of the sink and all seems well.

Do you leave mattress set up as a bed permanently, or store it away to use rear as a lounge?

We store the mattress in the shower stall when not in use. We enjoy using the rear seating area during the day. We also have a 2" thick memory foam mattress for the pull down bed. We keep it there all the time.

Thanks. The rear lounge area seems to make the 25.1 feel much bigger than it is. Glad to hear you use it for that purpose. Making the bed every night is a little extra work but probably well worth the added space.

Do you miss not having a sink in the bathroom? Seems an odd feature for a motorhome. I've only noticed that design on small trailers.
