Just signed up today. I was interested in learning how to work my slide manually in case it breaks and I can't get it in or out. It is working fine right now but I'd like to learn this before I need it.

I'm assuming that I have Schwintek slides ... it seems that is what Thor uses. My Hurricane has the two ladder rails (top and Bottom) that are typical of the Schwintek system. The video says to find the controller which has lights to indicate the fault. Any idea where the controller is? I also assume that the controller keeps the two slide motors in sync which means there would be one controller for each slide on the motorhome?

Also, in case of malfunction, the slides can be manually pushed back in after disengaging the motors. It seems that a slide lock would be a good thing to have in case of emergency.

Does anyone know what other kinds of slide systems that the Hurricane uses? Mine has a single ladder gear underneath the slide in the center. There is a motor attached to a gear that drives the room in and out.

I would guess Lippert as well. They make the Schwintek system, but also a lot more things.

I don't know why the photos rotated. The ladder gear is actually on the bottom of the slide but I think you guys knew that. The Lippert system looks similar but different. The Lippert "Through Frame" model has a round tubular thing running parallel to the ladder gear which I don't have. Also, the channel that the ladder gear runs in is totally different on the Lippert. Do you know of any other systems similar to the Lippert?

From what I can see on the Lippert website, their slides have a ladder gear that looks like this ...







But my gear rides in a larger "Hat" shaped channel like this...

FW28z and Fhenn . . .it appears you we both correct! I found a hard-to-find Lippert web page that shows a slide similar to mine. It was in the customer service section under, "above floor sofa slide." It looks like this...



The part I still don't understand is how the manual operation works. Most slides that I've read about say to disconnect the motor and crank something or push the slide in manually. This manual says this...

MANUAL OPERATION
The Lippert Above Floor Slideout System Motor is equipped with a Manual Override system that allows you to extend or retract a room if the rooms do not move when switch is pushed.

With a second person assisting, one person must push and hold the MANUAL
OVERRIDE switch in the unit, located on the control panel, while
the other person, using a 5/8” wrench or socket/ratchet combination, rotates the
hex head MANUAL OVERRIDE (Figs. 8 & 9) to manually move the slideout.





So, it would appear that I don't disconnect anything, just crank that little nut and it will retract? Does that nut rotate when the slide goes in and out normally?

There is a bolt type head on the end you just take a speed wrench and th=urn it the slide will come in or out
