Hello Everyon

Hello Everyone,

My name is TAM LE, I am retired at the end of 2010 but was returned to work as consultant for a special project until next June, 2016.

During my retirement, my wife and I travel a lot in the USA, Africa, Asia and Europe. We bought a brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for retirement travel in the US and we have already put in 130,000 miles on this vehicle, not including about 30,000 miles on our custom van.

For the rate of travel we have done, we are seriously thinking about purchase an RV since most of our travel above was TENT camping at national park and similar "Nature" location since we both are interested in Nature Photography and have done a lot of photography work.

After months of research, we came down to 2 brand that we are interested in.

1 - 2016 Thor Challenger 37KT or 37TB - 50% interest
2 - 2016 Georgetown by Forest River 37 footer... 50% interest

This is why I join this forum and hope that you could help me to learn more about the THOR experiences that you have and hope that my wife and I (we) could make the right decision when we purchase our new Thor by May of 2016 before my work contract is over.

Thanks in advance.

Tam Le

Welcome to the forum.

We have a 2015 Challenger 37ND and love the coach. Aside from a couple of issues the coach has be very reliable.

My experience with Thor is their customer se3rvice is far better than anything I received from Forest River when I had my class c.

Again, welcome to the forum.

I just join less than 24 hours ago, read through many of the issues that Thor owners had been experienced with. It was so so negative that scared the heck out of me. We are retiree, save up some money in our lifetime and hope that we would be able to enjoy our time at this stage of life, seems to me that so many owner bought a big lemon for $130,000 or more... That does not seems right. Some of the owner took the delivery of a brand spanking new RV and began having problem from day one... some of owner bought the expensive RV then spent 10 weeks or more a year in the shop...

That is really scary....

You have to keep in mind a few things when reading Internet forums about RVs:
  • Usually people with problems post and those that don't don't post--thus you'll see more horror stories than happy ones
  • The industry as a whole has quality problems. Pick any unit and read their forum you'll find some horror stories
  • Owning an RV is like owning a home if you are fairly handy you can tackle many problems yourself
  • Finding a really good dealer is essential--it's the horrible dealers that hold your unit hostage for months at a time

Thanks for all of the reply, you all made me felt much better... come to think of it, there are at least ten of thousands of RV out there and may be more... I may be just had an initial shock with handful of negatives...

I am currently living in Germantown, Maryland. I was planning to sell my home and move to Houston, Texas. Since I do not need a big home anymore, my kids are well made and have their own family, I will purchase a small town house and invest big chunk in a motor home and hope to travel on every America road before we settle in a nursing home (LOL)...

I found a dealer in TEXAS called MHSRV (Motorhome Specialist). Not sure if any of you have any experience with this dealer, or should I find a national dealer like Camping World so I could have a better support everywhere I go?

Thanks
