We are inexperienced owners of a 2018 Thor Four Winds 31W. We are planning to buy a 20 x 8.5 covered car trailer for 3200lb car. Our towing capacity is 8000 lbs, so I think we are ok. We will be around 55' long with the trailer. I guess my question is "are we being too ambitious to haul this load". I realize performance will suffer, I lived in Denver and have many memories of overheated RV's pulled over and clouds of exhaust behind slowly moving RV's climbing the Hill. Appreciate any advise, comments, thanks, RetiredRowe

Fiear: Welcome to our Campsite!
Second: what does this trailer weigh?
You can be comfortably well under the weight limitations for towing... as long as you buy the right trailer for the job!
(Example: our Toad weights 2078 lbs. We're putting it on a trailer that weighs 840 lobs. we'll be a bit over 2900 lbs total. We wanted to stay below 3000 lbs...)

Some really quick Math puts you at 6200 libs... before you've put any fluids in the car...
You'll be okay with this load: as long as the 8000 lb towing capacity number is correct.
But you've already seen the overheated RVs around you. I'd try to lighten up your package, and not put so much of a load on your rig.
Good luck!

( Keep in mind that I'm a "Fraidy-Cat"; who never likes to push the limit... )

How did you determine your tow limit? Sales Reps love to tell folks that if it has an 8000 lb hitch, it can tow 8000 lbs. That's not the way it works. Hopefully you did the real math for CVTR number. Just want to be sure you have the correct info. Your coach does have a hefty tow capacity. I did a good bit of research on that same model a couple of years ago but I had my heart set on a Class A so compromised with a Vegas.

I too will be towing my car on a flat bed. Seeing that the overall weight will be close, I chose to go with a 20 foot custom flatbed trailer with a storage winddam in front of it. The total weight of the trailer came out to be about 1500 lbs. Yes, my car will be out in the open as it goes down the road on the trailer...but then when I'm driving it down the road it's always out in the open without any protection whatsoever, so a flat bed trailer works fine for me and I save the extra weight.
