Just go inside first and ask the Commercial Counter person for a weight and they will tell you to go on the scale or wait until it's clear.

Advice here is unless you boondock all the time keep the water volume down to save weight and thus get better fuel efficiency. we carry about 25 gallons at most, but always weigh with everything you think you will carry - outside stuff, food, clothes and other things.

I don't think we could get to our max weight, but I have no desire to carry everything I own - but, I'm not full timing either.

That's great advice...for normal people. Shes probaly not normal...neither am I or many others. There's an old saying..."one is none, two is one". If there's room for another gallon...load it!!

Definitely not normal, lol! We learned it, "4 is 3, 3 is 2, 2 is 1, 1 is D.O.A" I do have everything I still own inside w/me & Radar. I'm downsizing from a 3 bedroom house...

The advice on only carrying a few gallons of water is sound and it does save you in the MPG department, however...I can't do it. I've changed plans mid-trip too many times and end up boondocking at some festival or event, and knowing I'm ready for multiple days of self-reliance allows me that freedom. I know all the arguments, I just choose to do it this way.

for Cat scales....even better way, use the smartphone app.
No need to press that intercom button that's too high to reach.... no need to get out.... I even found that I could straddle one side off the scale to get individual wheel weights...pulled through for the first normal weigh, then pulled back around and clicked re-weigh...but half off for the re-weigh

Soldier Girl,

If you do a search on CAT scales the web site will tell you where to find one and even have directions on their use for your motor home. And if you want the app is available from that site

So true and my wife follows that advice I think - "Look, I can fit something else in the 2"x 2" space and we might need it NEVER!

BUT...funny how she's always right, huh? I've developed quite the appetite for Crow. Nice to have those things when you really need them...like the extra pillow she packed for you so sleeping on the sofa is nice a cozy.

I got my RV weighed in Bushnell, FL at SmartWeigh. Also found out my height was exactly 12 feet.

Some days it works out that way, but I find as I move from the 5th wheel to the coach, I'm carrying fewer tools and rig stuff, chock blocks, wheel stabilization systems, tarps and leveling blocks, there seems to be more space in the "basement" so the movement of stuff from "upstairs" to down seems to be freeing up more space in the coach for more stuff, and it ain't pillows I'm seeing. But, yes she is usually right, i just nod!

The older I get, the more I find occasions where my wife is right and I'm wrong, LOL. Thank God she doesn't read this forum.
