2016 Shadow Cruiser Power Awning Blowing Fuses

Good Morning, all...

Yesterday I cleaned our power awning in the morning & let it dry until early evening. It retracted just fine, but when I went to extend it this morning it blew the 15 amp fuse after partially extending. I replaced the fuse (several times), but it blew the fuse immediately when I tried to extend or retract the awning.

According to paperwork, the awning is LCI Model V000144147.

Now what? Help!

Don

Just a guess but maybe got water in the motor housing or wiring. Perhaps remove the cover on the end of the awning tube and let it dry for a while. Certainly a short somewhere. Shouldn’t be too hard to find it. Follow the wiring down the arm examining it closely.

Do you have a meter? $10 at walmart, looks complicated but 12vdc is easy.

If you're desperate get some zip ties, rope, etc. and tie the arms together.
The hard part will be securing the fabric. If your in a campground ask for help, someone will have ideas about securing the awning AND many suggestions about your problem.

When our awning arm broke I got a lot of help . One "take charge" person almost demanded I take the whole thing OFF
Took a few minutes to zip tie, with help (I carry industrial strength ties), for the 1k mile trip home.

Called my hometown RV service guy & he told me how to retract the awning manually, as he thought the motor probably went out.

There is a small dust cover on the front awning arm at the top by the roller (that's where the motor is); remove the dust cover and you will see a 3/8" nut; just crank (and crank and crank and crank - our neighbor came over with his power drill & zoomed it in; a power drill is definitely a purchase I will make for the RV) until it is completely retracted.

Will get the awning repaired under our extended warranty when we return home.
