2017 Axis 24.1

My new Axis 24.1 has arrived and was delighted it is a 2017 model Axis on a 2016 Chasis. A couple of changes but I like. I will be taking delivery in a week.

The windshield is slightly different. There are covers for the roof fans. The floor covering color is different. Carpet was eliminated in the driver and passenger area. I may be forgetting a couple of other changes but nothing big.

I would like vinyl in the drivers area...a number of years ago, on our first motorhome, Ron tore out the carpet and laid peel n stick .. awesome job .. and ahead of its time...no units were coming with vinyl at that time. He did the whole motorhome !

The windshield does not look any different than our 2016. What is different?

The windshield does not go as high as in some earlier models. Just a few inches I think.

Congratulations. Just a reminder, I have not read one comment from anyone on this forum that has not had to have the front end aligned. It would be worth a try to get your dealer to get it done before you pick it up.

if only Thor would spend another 6 months before releasing a new year, there may not be as many faults and a even better model.... but push it out now and we fix it later is their attitude...

I think the new front window is also in some of the later 2016 models.

Mustang: I don't think a "model year" in the RV world means as much as it does in the automotive world.

Since RV's are basically hand built there can be many running changes during any given year. The aforementioned front window for example: On early 2016 Axis/Vegas units its the larger window from prior years, but on later 2016 units its smaller like les' above.

The Thor WEB site still shows the 2016 model, making it harder to see all the changes. I agree that the smaller windshield has been used for quite a while.

Greater changes "may" occur when the 2017 Model Year Ford chassis eventually reaches Thor production. In 2016 the big change was the 6-speed transmission, and for 2017 there will be a new engine "option". Whether Thor includes that option or not is anyone's guess. We also don't know if Ford will be making other chassis upgrades as part of 2017 MY revisions.

I'm not sure if a question on this forum regarding another unit is appropriate, but i am wondering if anyone has had experience with the Coachman Freelander coaches. Or has an opinion on them if you have. It's a Class C or course, but i'm curious if someone has an opinion since i know most of you are experienced owners of all kinds of motorhomes. thanks.

Our 2016 Axis was built in Oct of 15 and it has the smaller windshield. I really like it and the side windows. We test drove a Winnebago View Class C on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis. I felt pretty cramped when driving it, didn't like the ride and the wind buffering noise, probably from the overhead cab sleeping area. Driving the Axis makes me feel like I am behind the wheel of a 180 degree view window, which I think the windshield really helps in this regard. Nothing against Class C's out there but the Axis Class A seemed much more comfortable and more fun to drive. Just my opinion.

Appreciate your opinion. That helped.
