27.7 Vegas/Axis

We have had the 27.7 since October. I have a ton of pictures. The Storage is not a problem as we are not full timers and just do weekend trips around California and we will always do a longer trip in the summer. You have to be creative with storage anyways with these rigs.

I took some photos at the Tampa Super Show the other day. I'm going to do several posts, chunking them together by topic. This first one is for the control panel and other switches that are either new or moved in the 27.7. The first is the new control panel.

At the very bottom of this first photo you'll see the top of a switch. That one is for the hallway lights, a much better location than previously.

The second is the panel that is in the entry stair well. The USE/STORE switch in now just labeled Main Power. That may confuse some people. The Stabilizer switches are at the top of the panel. I'm speculating that this may present a problem where you can't see the driver's side to know how that one is doing and you don't have a built in level bubble.

The third one is the bedroom slide. The two unlabeled switches are for the lights in the bedroom.

First is the range and second the sink (obviously). I like the new back splash.

Leg room

This next pair are for Mo Mike and Metalman. The first shows the driver's seat, pushed all the way back. The second is the same except showing behind the seat show you can see how much room there is left.

Cabinet Lights

One of the new 'features' is the strip of LED bulbs over the cabinet doors. This shows off that effect.

This shows the entry step with that small control panel and the new coat closet right above it. Nice addition.

This shows the basement compartment just under the exterior TV. This and the pass thru compartment under the cockpit are the main storage bins available on the 27.7. There is some storage on the driver's side but not much.

Sage,

Outstanding, thanks for the pictures. Do you have some more for the bathroom and the bed (slide in and slide out)?

Now that I've seen a 27.7 and had a few days to think about it, I have to say that I really like this floorpan. I also looked at a Newmar Bay Star Sport 2812 at the show and was impressed by that rig. But the difference in price is just too great. If I were fulliming or snowbirding again, I might be able to talk myself into a Newmar. But, like jackdaw, I'm now primarily a weekend and vacation camper. So on that basis I find it hard to justify the cost of a Newmar. The Vegas 27.7 will do nicely.

I didn't get the bath sink unfortunately, just the toilet and shower. And I didn't shoot the bedroom at all. I do have one comment on the bedroom, though. Thor has changed the space under the flip-up mattress, adding some padding, and now they are pushing that as a place for kids to watch TV while the adults are in the living area.

Maybe kids will be comfortable there but I don't think an adult will. The space is too deep, so that the edge of the bench they've created hits the back of your calves. And there really ins't any padding for the backrest. My opinion is it won't be that comfortable.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Really like the coach. But...the outside storage and submarine windows next to dinette are a big sticking point for me.

I think Thor will continue to explore other options.

Nevertheless, it really is a nice coach.

27.7 Questions

jackdog,

I've got about 100,000 questions for you, but I'll limit it to just three areas - for now.

1 The Stabilization System
Do you have it? Is it really useful? My recollection is that it's a $860 option. If I'm right, do you think it's worth it? How much does it reduce any rocking in the coach? How easy is it to get the rig level?

2. The Wind Sensor for the Awning
My understanding is that this is standard equipment now. Has it worked for you? Have you been around when it triggered? How comfortable are you with it's reliability? Would you leave your awning out for the night? For an afternoon while you were away?

3. The Grill Propane Hookup
This was added in the 2018 lineup and in the 27.7 the location has been moved from the curbside rear bumper to just to left of the entry door, down low. How convenient is this location? Or isn't it? Did your rig come with a hose for hooking up between your grill and the attach point or did you have to buy one? If it was included, was it long enough?

The Stabilization system. It's only for the back. We had to take the feet off so we couldecided back it in the driveway. Lol. If you don't retract the feet before driving there is a loud sound or Alarm. We only used it twice.

The wind sensor save me big time. Was a way from the coach and the wind got out of hand in Malibu. It retracted with no problem. I got hurt trying to run back. Great feature.

Grill hook up is in the way. Lol. No hose came with it . We will need a long cord as we grill to the back and away from the coach. I'm gonna try and post some pictures.

Rose Bowl Parade !!!

Our second trip in the 27.7 . The rig powered up with the generator for 2 days not one problem. The room and upgrade are perfect for such events. No problems so far.

What designates this a RUV rather than a Class A? I saw on a video an advertisement calling it an RUV but looks like a Class A to me.

Ruv?

What make these rigs RUV's. I think the marketing of them sales them as weekend or short term coaches. They have a lot of features of the larger RV's but with a smaller footprint. However, they drive like Suv's if you get a good alignment and upgraded sway bars. The originals were not too much longer then a SUV anyways.

I wonder how much legroom there is for the driver. The seat in our Windsport moves back more than enough for my 36" inseam. It's so nice to be able to stretch out.

My 2 cents ....

Marketing.

Recreational Utility Vehicle versus Recreational Vehicle implies they provide greater "Utility", but no one has articulated a good explanation as to how they do that compared to other motorhomes of similar size.

My guess is that Thor is trying to capitalize on the popularity and coolness factor of SUVs.
