50 Amp question

Forgive what I am sure is a stupid question but someone has to ask them.

I have a Tuscany 45 AT. 50 Amp hook up is my normal way to go. On the inside control panel I have Line 1 and Line 2 (L1 L2) do I have a combined 50 Amp across both those lines together, or 50 Amp on each line?

What happens if you go over the 50 Amps by turning something on over the limit?

Ok, stop laughing all.

50 amps on each leg for a total of 12,000 watts of usable electricity.

50 amps by itself is a useless measurement. The RV "50 Amps" is at 240 VAC whereas the RV "30 amps" is at 120VAC. Realize that 240 VAC is actually 120 VAC on each leg, but 180 degrees out of phase so the can add together voltage wise or current wise, but not both. So yeah, L1 can have 120 VAC at 50 Amps and L2 can have 120 VAC at 50 amps.

Not Laughing!

I'm pretty sure there are no dumb questions when it comes to RVs! This link worked for me in trying to understand RV power. Chapter 3 deals with 30/50 amp power.

WarEagle...great link and thanks for sharing. Every morning I head to the computer to get my morning shot of "forum crack". Now, my head's a spinnin'...gonna get out of this robe, take a bath and make something happen today. I went to my local drug dealer the other day and, low and behold, he had these little one shot bags of powder labeled "Thor Forum". I realized right then I had an addiction problem!!

Your load management and load shedding will automatically shut something down. At least it works that way on our 42GX if you overload one of the legs.
