After two years I think I finally beat the BIRD!

After owning our VEGAS for almost two years, I think that I have finally got the BIRD (Bi-Directional Relay)and the TROMBETTA relay working.

The coach and chassis batteries always charged from the ALTERNATOR when the engine was running, but the SHORE POWER nor GENERATOR would charge the chassis battery, only the coach.

I discovered it first when my chassis battery was dead, even though it had been on SHORE POWER. I took it back to the dealer and was told "no trouble found"...

Thanks to all the posts and diagrams from fellow forum members, I got brave enough to delve into the wiring under the hood. Thought I had found the issue once, but all I did was trigger the TROMBETTA to be connected all the time. So, went back out and started testing, AGAIN.

This time I found out that THOR had wired the BIRD's "COACH BATTERY" connection to the "CHASSIS BATTERY". So, the BIRD would never see the voltage increase on the house batteries when SHORE POWER or GENERATOR was in use, so the TROMBETTA would never close and charge the chassis.

I am wondering if this is the same problem that many other posters have who say that SHORE POWER doesn't charge their CHASSIS Battery..

It would be a simple error for THOR, since none of the connections are labeled on the TROMBETTA.. But, now, for the first time, I feel confident that my chassis battery will stay charged.

Be careful what you say. Not all coaches have a BIRD (Bi-Directional Relay)and the TROMBETTA relay. My 2017 class c has a timed delay isolation relay that only operates with engine running.
