Strange but True?
Okay, this problem may be out there (and a bit off-color) but:
Our Old lab (Satin Doll) was diagnosised with diabetes back in late March 2017. Since then she has torn her ACL in the rear right and last month went blind due to complications with her uncontroled diabetes (switching over to a third type of insulin on Monday, still looking for the right dose).
With that said, Satin still enjoys going RV'ing with us. This past weekend we were in Canton NC at River House RV Park and she was with us. Unfortunately she can no longer jump up on the bed so she lays in the hall facing forward "protecting" us as my DW calls it. This puts her right up against the Propane Sensor. In the middle of the night last night the sensor went off...quite a rude awakening and as we got the dogs out and ourselves out I went back in to open up windows and turn on the fans. There was a foul smell but I found no leaks for propane (sprayed soapy water on the lines coming in from the tank - of couse it was dark and I only had a flashlight).
Since Satin's medications and high fiber foods gives her "gas" I wanted to write the episode off to that being the cause. The Chemist in me says that CH4 (Methane) is close enough to C3H8 (Propane) to fool a detector...after she quit laughing my DW says that can not be the problem and that I need to take the RV in.
So...to all you more seasoned RV'ers and - as off the wall as it seems - could the dog be at fault? Any insight out there?

Here you go: Get a can of methane and see if it sets off the detector. You can even get it in a given concentration..
That is funny, especially if it turns out to be the dog!

Jamie,
Cool...now I have my own "McGiver/Myth Busters" test to run. It might be cheaper to go to the RV Shop but it will be way much cooler to test it myself (and of course, I have got to make the DW happy) .
Thanks for the link!

You can find almost anything on the web, with a few keystrokes. I think this might answer your question without extra expense :

I'm betting on "dog farts", we've had issues using Lysol air freshener setting it off instantly, other brands do not. Low coach batteries will also cause it to alarm.

Mr. Sunshine,
Thanks for the informational(?) U-Tube Video...with that information I believe that this means I was correct in blaming the dog ; so I will put this "discussion" in the win column for me.

I love this forum!
And I love the spirit of anyone that will fart into a gas detector, video tape it and broadcast it to his family and the world.

Yea, I guess it's true, you can find a video on anything on youtube.
I'm quite sure that either on this forum or another, I read someone talking about their dog laying near the door and having a flatulence problem and setting off the alarm.
If that's the case, it kind of sucks not knowing when there is a real problem, not to mention waking up repeatedly (if it isn't isolate) each time the alarm goes off.

Looking back it is now funny but better safe than sorry; kind of like the theory behind the old "Fire Drills" from our School Days .
