Amphibious camping anyone??

This is interesting: Take your motorhome out on the lake with the RollerBoat.

I guess this was featured at the last FMCA meet in Perry, GA (Mike W. of Roadtreking discusses it in a podcast).

The rear wheels sit on some rollers (like a Dyno) and drive the propeller so you just use the gas pedal for speed..!?

This is certainly a different option than purchasing the TerraWind amphibious RV.

Need rentals at our major lakes. Prefer the barge to have it's own engine but would be nice to rent a barge you can drive onto.

Their website does mention a lake in Tennessee where they can be rented.

never mind here is it.... They are out of their mind....
How much does it cost to rent a Rollerboat?

The cost of renting a Rollerboat varies based on the season and the popularity of the lake. Prices range from as low as $600 for a three day rental to four figures for weeklong luxury trips. However; when you consider that you are essentially renting a premium campsite, a rental boat and a scenic tour all in one, the pricing makes a lot more sense.

Yeah that justification doesn't make sense:
  • Premium campsite--yeah ok lake side/view access LOL
  • rental boat--nope not buying it, more like rental canoe (think: where is the engine--oh you provide that, not the boat)
  • scenic tour--again nope not buying it: sure you can putz around a bit but a scenic tour doesn't last the entire weekend
Ok so: premium campsite ~$50/night, canoe rental $20/day, tour #$30: so for $70 a night plus $30 once or so is it still worth it..??

I thought it sounded like a good idea until I read up on the web page. The technology they are using like wireless steering box that mounts to your steering wheel and the drive train is much more costly than just adding an outboard motor. Also, imagine driving from inside your rig with jet ski's and power boats all around you. Water ways don't have painted stripes for lane markers and I doubt other boaters would yield to your signal lights. What happens when you take a wake from the side? The relative high center of gravity should make for a fun ride anyway. To many potential problems for me, but it is a neat idea.
